Hello, When my wife and I come home, down the Los Angeles County coast line from Santa Barbara, we get the quintessential experience about So Cal coastlines. From rocky shores to zillion dollar homes built on the sand and some cliffs, as well as dinky boxes crammed into as little space in a row of water front (lapping on your back porch in high tides) homes, this area of the coastline is a contrast in living spaces. While driving past Malibu Surfrider Beach going South to the Santa Monica Pier, traffic is heavy and if one is not in the correct lane, at the pier, it may mean circling around the block(s) to get into the right driveway or streets heading south along the beachfront. The red arrow is the tunnel heading South and East to the Downtown L.A. via the freeway. The first green lines are heading South toward the famous Venice Beach enclave. Then as one continues past Venice, all roads head to Marina Del Rey, the largest marina harbor in California. Jnaki In the 60s, we drove South along the coastline all the way through the Southern Los Angeles County beaches towards the Palos Verdes Peninsula and as we made the sweeping left hand curve in Torrance, headed directly to our house in the Westside of Long Beach on PCH. That was 64 years ago. My wife and I have always taken the same road coming home from the PNW and the San Juan Islands, as well as the 100 times we stopped in San Francisco for a visit. The coastline drive is always 100% better than the inland freeways. YRMV Note: As is the case in Los Angeles, folks who visit, cannot get over the traffic. But, the coast is usually a nicer drive and lower key than any other route. If one is going north from LAX or the L.A. South Bay area, the 405 is faster, but then the freeway goes inland and now, you are many miles away from the ocean and it becomes crowded and really not so nice of a drive. The LAX traffic is also horrendous on the 405, so the alternate route is the coastal highway, anyway. Yes, we go right in front of the LAX complex, but it is easier 90% of the time. So, for us, there is no choice, but to enjoy the ocean front drive through Santa Monica and the Malibu Coastline, around Pt. Mugu to the northern coastline. Or the drive South through Venice, Marina Del Rey and the LAX airport area and on to the South Bay cities with their own charms. Except, of course, for sailing down/up the coast and around the Peninsula Point out in the Pacific Ocean. Vnak Photos
EXACTLY. I spoke to an older lady from this area yesterday who told me this or a similar one was built, removed after stoplights for entry had to be installed & recently the roundabout was reinstalled. Brilliant Minds
