Has anyone replaced the 49-50 Plymouth or Dodge front clip from the business coupe to a 2nd series 51 or 52 Plymouth or Dodge. The 49 Plymouth's length is 184 inches and the 50 is 186 1/2 inches. The 51 or 52 Plymouth are both 188 1/8 inches. Since all 4 years are the 111 inch wheel base where did the Plymouth grow. It looks like it was the front sheet metal on the 51 and 52. Has anyone ever replaced the front sheet metal from a 50 Plymouth on a 51 or 52 Plymouth?

In every case I've read about, the front sheet metal was where the change was made. This applies to various mopar marques here and in Canada. Makes sense too, rather than all the components in the door section or rear quarters.
I wanted to see what you were up to, so I found those pics. The later one does look more modern, but the 49 is handsome, too.
Unless it was a direct bolt on swap, I don't know I'd go to the effort. While these aren't on every corner, if I desired a later look, I'd try to find the whole car. They aren't high priced.

52 Dodge is 115" wheelbase, seems Plymouth would be the same?

I just went by the photo description, so you may well be right. Good catch.
I am a mopar guy, but didn't have all those exact faces memorized. That's why I posted, for myself and others.

I believe the Dodges were a little bigger than the Plyms, though they look similar.

I have heard the front sheet metal all exchanges as a unit (hood & fenders as one). If the wheel base is the same, the difference in length has to be between the front tire vertical centerline and the front bumper.

Heres the short and skinny.....49-50 sheetmetal will not bolt up and match the 51-52 .....notice that .the door creases dont line up at all......Dodge and Plymouth do not interchange at all unless Dodge Canadian as they were based on the Plymouth platform....then the cutoff years still apply....Love them Mopars for sure...

  10. I can confirm that they will not bolt up. I have had many of both.
49 and 50 will bolt up between each other, and 51-52 will.
    I currently own a 49 with a 50 front clip, and a 52.
