Hey guys, been a while. Came across these rims and can’t figure out the brand / center caps. They are a knock off steel wheel with alum center (1970 ish)? Anyone help with the center cap. Thanks. Rob
I am probably wrong, the center cap symbol/logo reminds me of two brands of wheels, "Astro" and "Appliance"
My guess would be an Astro wheel. They also resemble something from the JC Penny A/FX line but the center cap looks to be Astro.
My old brain screamed Astro as soon as I saw the picture without seeing other replies. Neat piece! Pretty sure you fired up a brain cell that has been dormant 50 years. LOL. If dismounting that tire, look it over carefully. You put the tire on from the back on some old rims (some new ones still, too!). The outer flange on that looks pretty thick, may or may not indicate this.
That’s a Sears and Roebuck center cap. You have to look at it on the correct angle and it shows as a stylized SR.
Phillips is correct. Also a two piece wheel, alloy face welded to a steel wheel. The two piece wheels were the department store cheap (affordable) version of a good one piece aluminum wheel. Rocket and even Mickey Thompson made two piece versions. My lines are a little rough but gives you the idea.
That's a pretty amazing logo, it's styled in a way that it could easily be seen as a gyroscope as well. Learn something new everyday! Thanks for outlining the SR.
