Technical Should I leave It or Change It?

Sat down with pen, paper and opened a tire calculator on my phone.

The numbers tell me I’ll achieve a 1 1/2” rake with an average 3 mph gain @ 60-70 mph with the tires I specified above.

 

Stock wheels and caps…lower the front slightly!

 

For a “sleeper” look go with the caps. For the 1964 look I remember in my area go with 1957 Plymouths and narrow whitewalls, or Baby Moons.For the “no surprise here, looks like everyone else’s “go with the Cragars. Great report from your doc,treat yourself good.

But also likes the smoothie with Shannon cones

and painted steelies with both trim rings and spider caps

Personally I have 4 sets of wheels for one of my cars and can change the look in 30min.

Swap to the Cragars, but keep the stock look wheels so you can change up once in awhile for a different look.

 

My Cragars have the uni lug on the front and shank direct pattern on the rear. Now the rear are 5x5 bolt pattern maybe that's the difference. I like the Cragars.

Keep the OG style steel wheels and add beauty rings and you'll be set.

15x6 front 15x8 in the back with the right offset.

For ten years maybe more the S/S wheel was THE wheel, you just can’t go wrong with them.

 

Since the early 80’s I’ve always used 15x4.5 up front. Yesterday I mentioned 15X7’s for the rear. Was looking at 8’s today. Of course the back space.these day’s is 4.3”. Close to 4.5” like back in the day but I need to be sure it fit’s.

I’ve had it for a couple of years now and it already told me what needed fixing. My turn to tell it what it needs.

I am not usually a big fan of Cragars but if they look good on any car, it is definitely this one. If you have the money, get the Cragars and keep the stockers like you mentioned. Then also get the 15x8 rear steelies and paint to match the stockers.

Now you have 3 flavors to suit your mood. Worst case scenario, it’s not like the 5x4.75 bolt pattern wheels would be hard to sell if it doesn’t work out the way you want…

8" for the rear would be way better to mount a 275 tire onto. You have to run real low pressure with 7's to get the tread surface sitting flat and level to the road.

 

Exactly. With a 7" and decent tire pressure that 275 will be a balloon.

 

This I do know. But lady’s put up with high heels to ballon their calf’s. That also is a man design.

 

On a stock-looking tri-five I'm in the camp that a 165/80 is way too little on the front. I personally wouldn't go narrower than a 205 with the big 275 in the rear for a street car look.

205/60, 215/60, or 215/65 would give you a little better width match front to rear to my eye with still a good amount of rubber rake. Of course I lower my stuff, so I'm not sure how it would look at your suspension height.
