Agreed they don’t - I’m just curious to know how many people out there remember it and went to the show.
I used to go just for the car show and really never went inside for the music. But nowadays I feel that the car show is lacking and actually go inside and dance it up like a fool.
I've been going for a few years now. It's part freak show and costume contest, if you going for the cars like I do it's fun and sometimes some cool stuff shows up but not really a can't-miss for me. I more so go for the trip in my model A, the trip is more of the adventure.
From what I have heard and seen on video, the SHIFTERS had it right and now except for some of the hot rods, its a shit show. Old stories and video of when it was run by the SHIFTERS proves that , watch some of Dan Stoners video content and you will see.
You need to be about the Music 80% then the cars about 20% I would also say it more about being seen or drinking but your car sitting there for 3-4 days. The main carshow is Sat. If you there to just see cars, I would say find another show. I driven twice and have been many times before, outstanding cars for the show go there. Nice club collections too. But I would say it more about the Music show in the Hotel more than the cars. If you want a good time with cars def check out the Hotrod Rock & Rumble in Colorado. that about 80% cars - 20% music and you can drive your cars till you break them at the race track. Um Nope... I was there at the early ones and at the latest ones. Was still mostly a small show back them. still mostly about the music also. 1000% a sit around in the sun and drink around cars type of things. No trees or shade usually. Pop ups on the parking lot. If you want a show like this would the Minus Music- hit up any Mooneyes Show at Irwindale Speedway in CA, it about the same. The main thing in CA is you dont really see all the cars from other states. Mostly Local builds. If you honestly dont like the music or dancing (where most of the action happens) then Not a show for gear heads. Def check out that Hotrod Rock & Rumble. I went to it this year and would like to drive out to is in the future.
Went only once as I'm an east coast guy, way back in 2005. Stayed at the Orleans. It was a great time back then, just like the videos I had seen from California like Mad Fabricators. Got to meet George Barris at it too. We saw an awesome car show, got married by Elvis, did a some of the Rockabilly stuff, Blue man group, Hockey game, David Copperfield, rode horses in the desert, went to another Elvis impersonator show. Hard to forget trip, I still have the T-shirt from the show but it no longer fits. I probably have some film images from the show somewhere but it was so long ago all I know I have is us and Elvis. Yes its my real hair.
Went in '03 for a shake down run plus the adventure...the car show was a bonus. Just went for 1 day to see the car show. It was pretty much what Abe said.
