    Go, Jim Go!
I know you are a HP nut, but it seems the vette is telling you it likes it mild.
Cranky with go fast parts, calm and cool back to stock.
Unless you are not sharing issues, it seems this is it's happy spot.
I know you have the knowledge and tenaciousness to make it behave with double the HP, but enjoy it as it rolls for now.

PS I'm diggin the wagon but why remove the rear doors/handles and what's up with that plate?

    Today's temperatures:
Blythe, CA (Colorado River crossing) 112 F
    Phoenix, AZ 112 F
    Tucson, AZ 112 F

Some folks are tougher than this 80 year old...

Nothing like adding 2 full hot days to your drive, but it was for pure enjoyment so it seems like a good idea to me!

Have to love early truck cabs on a hot day. Not bad if you can keep moving, but the heat sure tires you out.

No door handles were removed, that's pure questionable 50's Mopar design. That's a 1959 Plymouth Custom Suburban 2-door wagon, and the body is as it came from the factory. If you look closely you'll see that the rear passenger windows slide backward to open. It's a bookmark of weird design decisions by automakers in that era.

@05snopro440 I stand corrected! Thought it was an owner's attempt to make a sedan shape into a coupe. Guess I would be happy with it, but get tired of know nothings like me questioning it.

Just wonder how many showed for the long haul. Just talked to a buddy of mine who’s at the track, been in line almost 2 hours and it’s 109

I made it to the track. I'm in line now. Car has been doing fine. I put the top up in Blythe to keep the sun off me.

Made a run. Car is running rough. I'll take off the air cleaner and try again.

    Removing the air cleaner helped.

Almost 2 seconds, and over 11 miles an hour? Sounds like an air filter ad!

Early Mopars are out in force!
I'm curious how they got the steering done on the Valiant with the straight axle.
With the headers tucking that far in, I'd guess a small block.

Thought I recognized that one, then saw the background.
That swamp cooler is going to be popular later in the day! We had one at the old shop and it was a life saver.

Thank you , Jim , for taking us along! No wonder you are getting better times and more mph, I also run better when I can breath fresh air, hahahha

Mid 15s are very respectable for a pretty much stock 327. Are you running 3.55 gears? Now if I could convince my new 283 in the 34 to perform similar to your 327 someday, that would be something….

I put 3.08 gears in it, so it's a real dog off the line...and it still spins 3000 rpm at highway speeds. But it does go down the highway great! I averaged 19 mpg on my little 1000 mile excursion this weekend.

Is there a red haired guy named Rudy there racing a Corvair? Rudy has a YouTube channel I try to watch, where he builds a lot of cars, mostly off road stuff. But his dad, who also has a YouTube channel (Matts Offroad Recovery) , is a big Corvair fan, and was helping Rudy build an engine for the drags. Was curious if you saw him and how he did.
