If this is not allowed, I hope the mods just delete it. I have a 67 Chevy single cab short box without an engine and trans. It is set up for a three speed manual. I’m putting in a 327 sbc slightly warmed over with better heads, aluminum intake, edelbrock carb and a cam shaft with very similar specs to the 327/350 L-79. I want to put a four or five speed behind the engine. I have a Muncie, but as I recollect the stock engine/trans placement is too far back to use a hurst shifter while retaining the stock bench seat. Maybe the shifter handle hurst offered for the 55-57 Chevy car would work? Does anybody know? The real question is if I don’t use the Muncie, what is a good/better choice? Questions like shifter placement, mounting and durability/reliability given my engine choice could use your comments. I’ll be interested in the response.
Tri 5 shifters can clear a bench seat, good thinking. The curved stick is available as a bolt on as well if you already have a shifter. I'd be measuring from an engine mount hole to see exactly where on the floor hump the stick would come through. Hey, Blazer buckets from one of those trucks would fit and be cheaper than a transmission! Your thread might get moved to the ot forum.
NV3500 aka M50 Nv3500 gear ratios The gear ratios for the NV3500 transmission are as follows: First: 4.02 Second: 2.32 Third: 1.40 Fourth: 1.00 Fifth: 0.7312. Lower first gear if you ever want to tow something, higher OD gear if you want to go somewhere. Shifter designed to fit a truck and you can adapt an aftermarket handle to the oem stub if you want a chrome one.
pretty likely to have 3.73 gears in the rearend, so if you expect to drive it in a "modern" way (ie. traveling on the highway at less than 3000 RPM) then the overdrive suggestion is something you'll want to look into....
Hell... I would go SM420 or SM465. I drove them for years, the downside is no OD. I ran them with anything from a 4.11 to a 5.38 rear.
