I am in the middle of buying a 1957 Ford 2 door sedan. I am wondering what would be the best engine and auto transmission? I am looking at a FE 390 but not being a Ford guy what would go behind it for a transmission?

  2. Four speed or t5 should be relatively easy. Several automatics like c6 also

C6 is a bolt in ,..very easy,... any T5 will be destroyed and short lived.
Toploaders and if you want to go modern, TKO.... or the somewhat new TKX.

The later Cruise-o-matic is not a bad option either. I ran a few with the reliable 352.
