Long story short got a 700r4 in a 34 chevy master that's stuck in first.

Access around the trans in the frame is extremely tight So just managed to get the governor partially out, and the piston seems to move, so don't think it's that. The frame stops me from removing it completely. The plastic gear is also OK

Dropped the pan to get to the TV mechanism. With the accessable parts removed (piston, spring etc).

The valve that is notorious for sticking problems is retained by a roll pin deep within the valve body so can't come out further dis***embly.

    My question is this.
How much movement should I expect with the valve insitu? I can push it in and feel pressure from the end spring so I know it's moving a bit but how far does it move out before it's stopped by the retaining roll pin. If I know the stroke of the valve I can determine if I'm getting the correct travel

I wanted to do more diagnostics before I take the plunge and open up the valve body.

I have searched the Internet but can't find the specific info I am looking for.

Need to get that governor out. Can you jack the trans up or loosen it and pry it sideways? When you get the governor out you will hold it with the gear pointing up and with finger and thumb, push the weights in and let them fall back open. Should do this very freely. . Watch to see if the valve moves up and down as the weights move.

Can you really see the gear without removing the governor all the way?

That's plan B. But may require pulling the motor. The stock frame has a K member thats a U channel section and the govenor sits in the narrow part within the channel. I'm trying to do the accesable stuff first.

Yep just. And you can feel it engage and drive OK

I need an answer to my question. I cant find the Info anywhere. If that's ruled out ill go back to the govenor as the potential issue

You may be able to feel two steps in that throttle valve. Push the plunger in and see if you can feel the other spring system. Pushes in easy then the second valve make it harder to push feeling like two steps. I think!

Can you use a hole saw and cut a hole in the x frame to get to the governor?

Did you try installing a pressure gauge and see what you have while in neutral and pulling the T.V. cable?

Actually, neutral or park, I usually get around 90 -100 psi min. on a good pump and it goes up when you pull the cable.
