How Would You Get Your Paint To Look Like This?

I was wondering if anyone knew how you would go about making your paint look like this:

It's not really flat paint, but it's not as shiny as regular paint. It looks like a good paint job that has been weathered (Probably because that's what it is! Haha!)

Is there any way to make the paint look weathered (like the picture) without having to let nature take it's course?

    Thanks!

Paint it with John Deere Blitz Black. It's a semigloss black.

Or add flattener to the clear coat of a normal paint job. Don't add enough to make it truly flat.

Take the paint off that one and put it on yours.:D

Like Gotgas said use a flattener in the clear coat.

I think it's a little more glossy than the John Deere Blitz Black, but I'm not sure.

You could buy an old can of paint that has been sitting outside

Then add some glossener to that. :D

    Or rub it with oil...

  13. Try flattening agent in various degrees on test panels to see what you get.

Or just use laquer with no clear - it'll look like like that in a few months of being outside.

Hahaaaaaa.......:p I almost fell out of my chair with that one!!!

  16. I have gotten a similar effect by stopping at the medium grit compound from 3M. It's like a gel, not a paste. I found this stage to be the best because any finer left it too glossy, and grittier and you saw swirls.
Disclaimer: I'm not a painter so just beware if you take my advice...it wasn't my fault!:D

Or just use cheap single stage old style enamel without hardener and thinned with cheap lacquer thinner.
It won't take long in the sun to have the aged look!

Take the glossy paint and scuff it with 0000 ultra fine steel wool.

I never did it, but you could probably just wash the car with cleanser, try Bon Ami first since it is less abrasive.

    Hey,

Martin Seinor/NAPA use to, and perhaps still does sell a paint called
" Chassis Black". This was for use on core supports, splash aprons
and yeah, the chassis. A semi-gloss finish, without all the silly flat-
ner in the clear that's gonna take a shit asap!

you can get a complete flat color by just spraying ppg base coat. its thick enough to where it wont fade but make sure you use a sealer and put plenty of base on. you can not do this with dupont.

seems like no one realizes that you want a car that looks like it was painted glossy black 50 years ago and is still holding up 'alright'

i know what your talking about

paint it single stage glossy black, and then sand and buff the shit out of it until it turns into that "worn" look.

  24. If you really want it to look weathered, this sounds like a good approach, I've seen this done. Also can disregard the directions on any catalyzed paint searching for a reaction(like drying overnite before spraying the second coat)-----------LEE

  25. Shoot it with a cheap gloss paint, then rub it out with Ajax cleanser. Then park outside in the sun and rain for a few months.

I have achieved a similar look with black acrylic enamel flattened 20% and shot just a little dry.
