so out of curiosity.................. the wood kit for the steelback vicki is approx 1800. for the same in tudor about 800. has anyone adapted a tudor kit to fit a vicki? 28-29 or 30-31? of course I could also use a steel insert if avail or fabricate my self. thoughts??????????
Factory Vicky bodies have a floor entirely of wood, likely the difference in price you are seeing. 2 door sedan steel floor is a option I am considering on my Vicky. These parts will work from the rear axle forward and will need some fabrication from the rear axle rearward, Vicky floor, axle rearward is longer than 2 door sedan. Reworking a 2 door sedan wood kit or crafting the inner structure of steel comes down to which material you are more comfortable working with and what you want the end result to be.
I made my own wood. I laminated the front, back, and side pieces from 1/4" marine plywood. I did the sides both at the same time. I just cut oversize strips, applied glue and clamped them to the top. They were very flexible and just bent to the top shape. I did the front and back the same way. Trimed and lapped and glued together in place. The bows were cut from lumber yard oak boards. This was done in about 1971. I know I had almost no money it the job. Marine plywood is best as it has no internal voids. Not hard to find in Port Arthur Texas.
