Need some help again . I have a 1951 Ford OD Sparkomatic (3) speed floor shifter I am installing in my '49 Ford Coupe, do to too many missing parts and complications trying to stay with the (3) on the tree. Have it basically bolted it, but looks like it will be difficult to get the shift rods to work, due to the OD Solenoid being in the way.... To get it on the road, I may just not put the OD solenoid in at all for a while, however, always get great info on here.. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Much !
You need a special shifter for OD transmissions that mounts the shift mechanism higher. I have tried, but can't get the regular ones to work. I do have a Fenton OD shifter. Here is the first page of the instructions. The bottom picture shows the special bracket they use. The instructions also say that the transmission tunnel will have to be modified to clear it.
This link might help. It’s a set of pictures installing the original Hurst brackets for a Syncro Loc on a T85 o/d. Not exact what you’ve got, but the pictures of the brackets might give you an idea of two. These are almost impossible to find these day. https://www.hotrodreverend.com/post/2017/09/20/55-ford-restoration-blog-part-10
Here ya go Bought a Muncie 319 with this shifter mount and rods. The shifter that came with it was shot. So I added an old 3 speed shifter I had in an old parts car. The mount and creative shifter arms were built by a cool old guy decades ago. The mount was built like the correct 3 speed OD shifter mount. I’ve seen one NOS OD shifter and its mount looked just like this. I mocked up the shifter to see if it worked. Shifts fine. Needs cleaned up and the aftermarket shifter mount trimmed at the red line. Floor clearance? Don’t know. It’s crude but effective. Plan on cleaning things up a bit. The welds on the shifter arms? Well Don’t know. Might just leave em cause I liked the guy that done it
