Sick 66 is only a few weeks away, and I have my transmission on the bench and rebuilding it today. I am making it to Sick 66, so see ya there.

I'm almost ready to pull the engine out of my Corvette, so you know I'll be there!

(but it's being obstinate, and biting me a lot this time)

If I don’t run it fast enough to require a cage, will they let me run it even though it’s capable of running faster? Don’t think I can get the cage guy to build it before then. Everything else is ready to put in the car. OK the 2 850s are 3-4 weeks out, but coming.

  6. Unfortunately I’m a dumb ass and didn’t register in time, and two kids in university/college have eaten into my budget so I’m out…sadly.

You tell them what times you expect to run, so if you think you can run 11.50 or slower, then you get a tech inspection that lets you run 11.50 or slower, and you don't get to turn in a faster time slip. And any track has the right to not let you run again if you run faster than you're allowed by your tech inspection. But they usually don't worry about it if you go just a little faster.

Thanks. That’s what I was hoping. I’ve submitted for the wait list and will put the drivetrain in it and put the interior back in. I better replace the rear side windows as they have bullet holes and are held together by tape. Thinking I’ll pull it to the first track, then drive and if I don’t get to race maybe one of the tracks will allow open test and tune so I can make a pass or 2.

Might want to just show up, and don't worry about having a spot already. I don't know how the Sick events work relative to Drag Week, but it's been the case every year on Drag Week that everyone who shows up, gets in. They sign up 400 cars in ten minutes early in the year, then 6 months later only 300 registered cars actually show up, and another non-registered 30-50 cars that show up always get to enter and race, whether or not they were on the wait list.

This is a far more difficult challenge than many folks expect. Just getting to the START, if you're signed up, is too difficult for 20% of the entrants!

So, I suggest you just go, and don't sweat it.

11.50 in the 1/8 would be pretty slow. Hope you don't need a cage for that. lol :p:D

    I always use 1/4 mile times for tech examples..but yeah, whatever the 1/8th equivalent is, I forget. I know 10.00 1/4 is 6.40 1/8th

I know his car should run faster , I think 9.50 in 1/4 mile. I just thought that was funny saying 11.50 .
He would be looking for 7.30 in the 1/8 with 11.50 1/4.

My truck will run 10.6 in the 1/4, but I am only allowed to go 11.5, no cage. I have never had a problem with any track I have been to.

getting closer, I got to take my car for a "test drive" doing the Duct Tape Drags this weekend, and I took the long way there, with a little detour to California. Best time in the 1/8th was 9.870.

I had to remove the air cleaner to get it to run right, but I since figured out a cure for that...using the base and element that were on the car when I got it (that hits the hood), plus the original top that I bought, together it flows enough air, and clears the hood.

I'm also tinkering with a few other things, to help make the drive a little better, and keep my wife happy. Did I mention she's going on this trip? should be a blast!

made it to Springfield. Will spend a little time tomorrow at the drag strip, getting signed in and maybe watching some folks make test n tune runs.

    and talking with folks!

hopefully remembering to take a few pictures, too

Talked to Tom for a few minutes, he said they had the drawing for Plan II giveaway yesterday, and will let us know who won it soon.

She got a little warm today....but still hanging in there. Just wait till we start getting lost trying to find checkpoints! or the car quits working!

She said she saw someone wearing a Jalopy Journal shirt tonight...but she's too shy to say Hi

FYI, Tom doesn't allow day-of registration at his events (Sick events). That came up on the Facebook page recently and he addressed it directly. If you don't have a spot driving there, you won't miraculously get one by showing up.

Just some hooligan, she should avoid 'em! Of course, she's riding all day with you so we know her taste is questionable! :D
