    Hello,

I just received a tri power system, adapter trade for other parts donated to a project.
Some hacked looking clues, but open to all comments, derogatory or not. Mount on wall...I'm OK with that too. I did get his Hula Girl dash trim..

    1) what is best way to use.

    2) how reliable/fun how do most people run. 1 carb, or progressive?

    3) I already don't like air cleaner....

For me the best option would be to keep the carbs and air cleaner and make the goofy adapter a wall hanger. The fuel lines and the throttle arm look kinda clunky, I’d scrap the lines and try to clean up the throttle arm.

hhhmmmm...The fuel line 'connector' is commonly used for shop/job site air hose. Yeah, the adapter is a wall hanger. Check the brass tags for original applications, the carbs could be something.

I don’t know why folks purchase the 3-2’s this way. Maybe the 2-2’s but to me they all are dumb looking. Sticking them on a blower is worse….. it must be a r r thing.

Not tri power, but might have lower kits. Saw I can buy the throttle bodies if necessary. I can find a tri power intake, this looks like a barn burner. Let's just say, the car I'm working on his alot of trailer park engineering as well.

Air cleaner is heavy aluminum, looks way to 90s for me.

I was at a farm auction once, 1980s, bought a complete 348 tripower, with correct carbs, with mech progressive linkage and original black air cleaner off old pulling tractor. $19.

Gave it to brother for $120 I owed him.

That is a Vintage Speed adapter and many have been used successfully with progressive linkage. Not everyone's cup of tea but not a joke either.

  8. In the fifties back when a lot of guys weren't on board yet with single four barrels it wasn't unheard of to run two two barrels on a four barrel intake. Honestly hadn't heard of people running a 3-2 to four barrel adapter though

It looks like the end carbs still have there idle circuits. I no experience with the adapter but you have the start of a diy tripower setup. IMG_1465.JPG

    This is mine.

  10. To me those adapters look like shit and says that the owner is cheap and shortcuts everything.
I'm waiting to see someone turn one of those goofy things sideways, or maybe a pair turned sideways on a 2x4 intake. Lol
As far as that heavy cast air cleaner I'd rather have your top than the one I got with a setup I bought here in the classifieds. How does your top stay on ?

    "Its a free country" (mostly)

"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" (can agree with that)

(Personal opinion) if a vehicle with that thing showed up at car show with an open hood, there would be 2 categories of lookers:

    (1) folks with very little knowledge of cars - "WOW, tripower"
    (2) more knowledgable car folks would say nothing, and walk away shaking their heads.

The adapter would make a wonderful conversation item in your shop / garage.
Maybe the best destination for the carbs would be the recycler.

    Thanks for showing the pictures.

Love it, I agree with everything thus far. Guy stopped by today that gave it to me. I took it apart, started telling him, good carbs, might buy base kits for ends, future fun.

He was like its ready to run, I was sure, I'll go thru it, before it goes on any engine.

Top bolts on with weird angled bolts the original bottom is 2 4bbls. Somebody made this trip hack job bottom. Let me know if you want me to measure something.

Turn it upside down on a tri-power manifold, and put a Holley on there; solve all the usual problems with three obsolete carbs... and go faster!

    I am being facetious.

That is just screaming to be mounted on top of this .
    upload_2024-10-12_13-20-27.png

Then you can tell "bullshit stories" about it being an Anti Reversion Chamber Dual Plenum Tri Power Setup:D

It would get far more admiration from observers than the current trend of stacking superchargers on each other.

Also what's not to like about the air cleaner. An Edelbrock air cleaner belongs on a Weiand intake

  20. No, it's for a 3x2, the top's holes line up with the end carbs air cleaner studs, the base is the same heavy cast aluminum.

  22. I thought mine was a nice setup until I took the carbs off, both end carbs had block off plates under them and the throttle blades removed.

    He didn't need to!
The float levels were adjusted with ball bearings in the fuel hoses to the end carbs :p

  26. I've never ran a 3x2 before but have ran plenty of 2x4 setups in one to one linkage configuration.
I don't understand why you can't run the idle circuit on the outboard carbs, it would help keep fresh gas in the carb bowls, of course still run a progressive linkage.
I idle on both carbs on all my 2x4 setups, so why can't you idle on all 3 ???

just be BUT kinda looks like try power BUT with the real thing you have better fuel distribution with that it is like a big single carb

^^^^ I’ve run every multi carb set up progressive and always idled on all the carbs; one reason was even at idle the needle and seats get some use and fresh gasoline. On a cold engine a full throttle pump made starting easy by each carb squirting. The principle running carb gets a slight choke which is set to the first notch on the fast idle which add about 200 rpm for a minute or 2. My current 2-4’s has been on 7 years and no intention of removing it…

I don't know why anyone would think this afterthought adapter set up would make decent power.

Air doesn't want to make a sharp 90 degree bend, then a second sharp 90 degree bend.
And fuel suspended in air, really doesn't want to make a sharp 90 degree bend.
The fuel will fall out of suspension, then you have wet flow issues.

Some parts are designed to sell, not designed to be used.

Those carbs look like a nice start for running a 3x2 setup. Many ways to skin that cat as others have mentioned.

I would bin the “fuel block”. I had two in a shop and was never able to make either of them seal air, no matter what kind of teflon/dope/silicone I tried. Also, it looks less clever than it does hackish.

I am not repulsed by those 3x2 adapters, and even bought one recently. I have a couple 3x2 intakes from Edelbrock and Offenhauser for my current projects, so I didn’t need it. It was clearanced on speedway and I figured some day I might want to put 3x2 on something that never had a 3x2 intake made for it. Rather have it and put it away while it’s available than write it off entirely until it’s “rare” or “NOS” like so much other previously worthless crap we covet now.

The air cleaner is cool too. Depending on the look you’re going for, maybe you could polish it or repaint it if you don’t currently like the look. Another neat thing to squirrel away if you have the space if nothing else. Just keep in mind not all intakes have the same carb base centers- I think one of my edelbrock intakes is 4.5” whereas my offenhauser is 5”.
