    I got to save a rear main cap by installing a helicoil on a 327. Someone used too short a bolt and broke out some of the cap. IMG_2573.jpeg

    thrust bearing has some wear but not as bad as I thought it would look if the crank had moved far enough
    Timing gear is not touching the block. I’m thinking the dampener was hammered on to much

  4. Cheap trade for the engine .
    I’m still happy with it. Ive got another cover Just more curious for the cause. The hole wasn’t there until I pushed thru it

    I had a new 292 dampner at the shop...I'll look for it tomorrow.
     
  8. Looks like a normal bearing.

    I took apart a 400 sbc recently , the bearing looked pretty good...crank thrust surface not so mucho_O

    Looks like someone threw some money at that Pontiac. I'm sorry to say my Pontiac will end up with a Chevy engine.

    The previous owner let it ingest something that didn't agree with it. I bought one new Ross piston with the same part# but they changed the design... Gunna order a full set on Monday:(

    I have a 409 that needs one piston or a set of 8 that are the same, don't want to change the recipe if you know what I mean. ;)
     
  16. IMG_8304.jpeg IMG_8305.jpeg I didn’t have much time yesterday to work on Papaw, but I drained the TH-350. My plan was to change the filter, front and rear seals, and run it. The fluid on the dipstick was nice and red, I can’t smell anything since Covid, so I couldn’t go by smell. I removed the pan and found most of the friction material from the clutches laying in the pan. Shit. It’s been 30 years since I attempted to rebuild an automatic and then it was a crap shoot if I wound up with a transmission full of neutrals. The last bench job for a 350 around here was $7-800, that was for my nephew’s buddy’s Square Body. I guess I’ll start shopping for transmission kits. I think we have an account with Transtar at work. Automatic transmissions were the only subject in Tech School I struggled with, but that could have been because of the train wreck with the killer body I was dating at the time. :eek: There can’t be that much Black Magic inside a Turbo 350.

    Hey Andy, Years ago my kid and I rebuilt one we put in his V8 vega. I bought a DVD and we would watch it , pause it , run to the garage and work on it , go back watch some more....It was comical :D The trans worked fine even with a 125 shot.
