Just got thru Helene, now Milton??? That said, we got off easy compared to TN/NC.... Be safe all. If you have that gut feeling that sumpin aint right, leave.
Feel so bad for those who are unable to escape. 75 is bumper to bumper, gasoline lines are miles long, hotels are booked, some shelters are even closed. Storm surge is impossible to escape. Worst case scenario. The poorer people are really trapped with few choices. Talked to niece last nite , she's battened down , says she's staying ...in Largo ..SMH.. Interstates were 4 lane parking lots , nephew is disabled veteran in care facility , they tried to evacuate him , made it 5 miles in 2 hours started mon AM

My son, who lives in Deland Florida is a lineman. He spent the last 2 weeks up in the Carolinas after the last hurricane and just got sent home Monday to deal with the one approaching Florida. He’s supposed to report back to work tomorrow, Wednesday. Huh? I told him take care of the wife and kids first, THEN worry about work. Geez, he’s dedicated to his job but go to work as your dealing with prepping and possible aftermath of the storm? Family safe house secured, then think about your job.
I used to live on the NC coast...moved to the mountains to get away from the hurricanes. So much for that. 'Have relatives in Florida, praying for everyone's safety down there.

Just talked to him. He said he’s not going back to work till Thursday. IF everything is good at home. At least he can work fairly local instead of being on the road for weeks on end.
My wife talked with her brother that lives on the gulf coast of Florida. He and his wife went to Miami. He said what should have been a 2 hour drive was a 6 hour drive. The roads are packed.
I often envy you guys down south for your mild climate, year round cruising and summer... but I don´t think I could handle the hurricanes.
I feel for the people an hour or two north of me. Two years ago I rode out Hurricane Ian 15 miles inland of where it made landfall. This storm was much easier on me, only 30 hours without power this time. After Ian I was out I think 10 days and no running water for 5. It's torture waiting for a hurricane to come because every 3 hours the NHC puts out a track and one time it shifts for the better and the next time it's worse. Once it hits its hours upon hours of relentless wind and destruction. They are definitely not fun. This storm spawned 130 tornado warnings and I think 36 confirmed touchdowns hours before landfall. It was the wildest tornado outbreak I have seen, 3 touched down within 10 miles of my house. No real damage for me and I hope everyone affected can get rebuilding and back to some normalcy
Glad I wasn’t there. Bradenton RV resort. That’s mine with the brown cover. I installed anchor straps last spring before heading back home. most damage was wind related.
Linemen….I was, my son is, and my grandson is now an apprentice. Where we live we never had tornadoes or hurricanes but other catastrophes like earthquakes and fires….someones misery led to countless hours on the clock and no sleep.. it did lead to large paychecks if that was any justification. Never considered “first responders” but usually there on the job to the end sleeping on or in our trucks when we could. Many of us yelled at for not being quicker or fast enough by the ungrateful but thanked more times than you can remember when the power went back on. Bless him and his co-workers and safety above speed.
Well I had mine inspected today. Bad bad. Interior roof and sidewall compromised. Boy that changes this winters plans.
