Technical Let's talk Sealed Beams

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Hillbillytrucker, Oct 12, 2024.

  1. Which brand 7" sealed beam of current production is your favorite? I've discovered that the most of the sealed beams you can buy today the reflector has som weird matt finish compared to old sealed beams, in the old ones the reflector is much shinier.

It's not only on the pictures, I have a couple of both old and new sealed beams and you can clearly see the difference if you hold one new and one old in your hands.

See the pictures and you'll understand what I mean.

Mine are GE Halogen. Been great for 12 years. I believe I bought them from a local Auto-Zone.

  3. I've been known to to the Silver Star ones but they're made in China and only lasted just out of the warranty period (2 different bulbs). I've started other posts about lighting, I like to drive at night and need a little better lighting then a stock 30s and older light can give (even with a retro halogen kit). All cars have sealed beam lighting now and some have even more (with a stockish looking bulb).

The last truck I drove was in 96 and it had Sylvania extra vision headlights. They were the small rectangular ones, but they lit up to the fence lines on both sides of the road almost ninety degrees on each side on low beam. Best light pattern I've experienced. I would love to find a 7 inch round headlight with a wide pattern like that.
I drove truck for several decades and only killed two deer in total over the years.
