I know ford had some PS coolers, but I always wondered how hot the fluid gets? Is it really necessary to cool it?
From most of what I’ve read it would probably do more to heat the fluid using the radiator cooler vs having none or a stand alone cooler. Idea abandoned.
All the big 3 had various PS coolers for HD and police use. All were small separate coolers like shown. I'd guess that would just require some creative line selection for routing on your project.
Some foxbody mustangs had a 2’ loop of steel line in front of the radiator that acted as power steering fluid cooler. I had to add a cooler to my Autocross car because it would push fluid when it got hot. I just used the smallest oil cooler I could find.
Cool the return side (low pressure). But as many have pointed out, the standalone is going to be cooler, lighter, commonly available. Unless you have the radiator with built-in AT cooler and not using it, it's not really a great plan. Even then, you are heating it to engine temps. https://www.bing.com/shop?q=power+steering+fluid+cooler&FORM=SHOPTB
I'd say not a chance ! I seriously doubt that the power steering runs 190°+ degrees...like the engine coolant does ! Just get a more proper radiator/cooler/heat exchanger. Mostly by size. The power steering system doesn't need a 10" x 10" radiator. Mike
Just use an inline heat sink cooler. I used the cheapest Summit Racing heat sink style cooler mounted to the frame rail next to the pump and saw a 40F drop in PS fluid temps in the summer.
