I've recently discovered Driven Oil. They sell various viscosities and some have the needed ZDDP. Has anyone ran this oil? Howard's Cams told me they make a great break in oil. Engine has just over 100,000 miles and it's all original. I know I can Valvoline VR-1 and Castrol GTX Classic locally and easily. I rather not get too thin or too thick. Rather have standard/mineral oil. Read synthetic is bad on old seals and cork gaskets. I understand flat tappet cams need ZDDP. Rather get the oil with it. Been reading diesel oil is changing up.
All oil changed some years ago. You have to get pre-SM, or pre-CJ. Some say it was only the car oil, but I've seen oil marked SM/CJ. Flat cams need ZDDP. The oil companies claim they put in something else that works as well but doesn't increase emissions in newer cars. Driven, orange ink on black bottle?
popular stuff among a few of the drag and drive guys. But maybe it's just good marketing? picture I took this morning....this car is from Canada, drives it a bunch of miles, and runs high 9s 1/4 mile times.
I broke my ‘62 260 in with Driven break in oil. I changed the oil and filter after break in and refilled with it again. After 400 miles I switched over to Driven hot rod oil. All good so far. I’m rebuilding my ‘63 LeMans engine now, and plan to do the same.
I have been using there gear oil in my Muncie. It says safe for white metal on the bottle. Been very happy with it and would use the engine as well.
