I heard some ticking only after longer drives. Used a pipe stethoscope and it sounded like it was an exhaust leak. Changed the gaskets and noise kept up. I actually pulled a valve cover before the exhaust gasket change and everything looked fine, all push rods were tight. After the gasket change and some more miles I pulled the valve cover again to find the super loose rocker.

I stripped the engine completely and the cylinders look decent but the rod bearings look bad, crank bearings aren’t too bad but I’ll replace them.

Best thing you can do is scrub everything with HOT soapy water , rinse & oil down .

No Im talking about the noise the engine would have made in the video that has the lifters chewed up worse than anything ive ever seen. Thats the engine that would need total tear down and replacement of parts.

Summit should be ashamed, they have sunk to the depths of the Hoffman Group.
Unboxed lifters and zero quality control on that camshaft, really??? And apparently the supervisors have no control over the employees or management has cut back dramatically on packing materials. Those that have been ragging on Speedway can now add Summit to the list.

  9. Apparently Summit has run out of warehouse space and are now storing their camshafts outside o_O:eek::mad:

I think I would be temped to send that cam and lifters back. It doesn't look like it will survive break-in. Maybe I'm just paranoid, or maybe I'd just prefer my brand new parts to not have rust on them! The nose of the cam lobes already look half worn out!

Lifters are marked up form hitting each other. I’m surprised they were all there going by the massive hole in the side of the box.
I don’t think I’d be comfortable using that cam either. I’m wondering if this is why there is one wiped out lobe on the cam I’m replacing, it’s the same cam part number

  12. Good grief!
I would be considering a return for a refund and shop elsewhere.
    At least they’re consistent. Pitiful.

^ I really hate junk parts. I'd be sending it all back, after a phone call explaining exactly why.
Comp and Summit need to step it up...they seem to be forgetting who butters their bread.

In ‘08/‘09 I bought a Summit cam/lifter set for a 460 Ford. Cam was in a box, oiled up, plastic kinda sealed wrap, lifters were in boxed, with individual separators.
I am shocked the lifters were just loose like that.
    The cam as well.

edit: I wouldn’t be tempted to send things back, I’d just do it.

Summit....if possible, shop in person...they allow you to inspect parts before buying.

Although their return policy is really good..

Add: their scratch and dent return, or display area has cams all the time 1/2 half off. Sometimes Mopar, Ford, Chevy..

Shop at Competition Products , they seem to give a shit , summit , jegs , speedway , not so much , just my experience , YMMV ... Your order looks like someone's returned junk that nobody checked & threw back on the shelf .

I have used several of the comp products /Elgin lift rule cams with great results. The cam in my 57 right now is actually a lift rule cam. Came with cam/lifters/springs /retainers for pennys on the dollar compared to the big name. Also check/degreed dead on. I keep one set up in stock. But as stated before they have always gone above and beyond. Don’t forget to ask for a broom sheet. Sometimes they have some killer deals.

Dang. That sucks. I’ve been a happy Summit customer for years. Maybe you caught the wrong person, on a bad day. I’d send that whole mess back.

Summit was pretty good to deal with, gave refund on cam and lifters, didn’t even have to send them back.

I found a crack in the water jacket during disassembly which could have possibly been the cause of my issues although a drop of coolant in the rad or coolant in the oil wasn’t noticed. Just working on lock stitching it closed, hopefully that works

If that's a 350 block , toss it & get a different one , not worth the cost of fixing .

  21. I had ordered some 460 Ford parts around 1982 from the now defunct PAW. The main bearings were LOOSE in the box. Like someone threw them in. We went over them and they were not damaged.

Anything else I got from Summit was well packaged. The Lunati cam and lifters were in the factory boxes. Apparently not the same deal with the Summit parts line.
