    Hello,

We have always liked that the Detroit factories came up with the idea of a passenger car/truck for the majority of folks who do not like the vertical driving mode of the larger pickup trucks. The size of the larger trucks was a little intimidating, especially in everyday driving/ parking. Our Westside of Long Beach house had one of the narrowest driveways between our house and the neighbor’s fence. So, those large trucks would not fit. Our neighbor had a different house, but a similar narrow driveway.

He could navigate the driveway, but could not park in the single car garage, the normal size pickup truck was too large. So, jump up into 1964, he opted for a new El Camino and now, his drive into the backyard garage and narrow single car garage was simple and easy. He still had to squeeze out of the driver’s door to get in and out, but at least it was in a covered garage.

When the Ranchero came out with a supercharged motor, it was the talk of the cruising area. No other passenger trucks had the Paxton supercharged motor. The whine of the supercharger was a sound to enjoy and know the power it is giving to the Ford motor. When a local guy came into the drive-in parking lot with a Paxton supercharger in a T-Bird, that was the epitome of the sound of the supercharger and a cool sporty car.

We saw a fast Ranchero doing well at our local Lion’s Dragstrip. It was run by a seasoned drag racer and no one could touch it during the eliminations.

When originally reading the Drag News byline under the photo of the 57 Ranchero, one thing popped out fast. A 321 cubic inch blown 57 Ford engine. Wow, no wonder people thought it was fast and challenged the fact. It was a misprint and should have read 312 cubic inch rated 300 h.p.

“Pete McCarroll after repeated protests was torn down under the watchful eye of J.C. Hart, found legal, and then proceeded to set a new class record at 108.51 with his 321 cu inch blown 1957 Ford Ranchero. Tuning chores for this super stock hauler are handled by L&M Automotive, Long Beach.” So, he was fast and definitely legal... despite the misprint.

    Note:

For you guys that like lowered rake custom cars: plus a full set of scavenger pipes… YRMV

Goodmorning....a (my best guess) 1962 100% American made Great States reel mower I "restored' in powder coat bone white and Mopar QQ1 Blue. Did this because the neighbors aren't up as early as me...then figured out I shouldn't have made the blades white after the first mow so now it's just "art" sitting in my house.... 20220402_160233.jpg 20220402_182006.jpg 20220403_145156.jpg 20220501_133947.jpg 20220625_184622.jpg 20220625_185049.jpg

I try to live by the 10:00 rule for mowing my lawn on the weekend so I appreciate your thoughtfulness on that.
Great job and idea on the mower. Your mower blades aren’t now green they are “Sublime”.
