It took me a minute to figure out what was happening there.

    Hello,

Well, for us So Cal residents living near the actual park from the time we first visited in 1955, it was TWA in the beginning. They sponsored the whole building and “Rocket to the Moon,” exhibit/ride. It was so new and exciting. That was 1955 to 62. When we graduated from H.S.

By the time 1963 Summer had rolled around, our friend who worked on the midnight maintenance shift of the Autopia, told us the Rocket to The Moon had closed and now it is Flight to the Moon.

Douglas Aircraft was a huge So Cal company building planes and into the Jet era in the Lakewood/Long Beach Airport area. Their feelers and branches were all over the Orange County locations. So, it was a natural that they would sponsor something so cool. Douglas Aircraft sponsored Rocket to the Moon from 1962 until 1966.

By the time we took our son to the park, the original, Rocket to The Moon had been changed at that location and eventually became Mission to Mars. Which lasted until 1992. ( No TWA or Douglas sponsorship) New company, new leader, new attractions and company goals… YRMV

My step grandfather was an engineer for Douglas Aircraft.
My grandmother was a welder there during WWII.
