I picked this up today (well, two of us picked it up). I never had a QC before and only saw them under race cars. I built a drag car out of a 2000 Camaro and now since I am getting too old to load, unload, load, unload--I think I will change it up a little bit and drive it on the street. I like the dirt track wheel look, so maybe this is gonna work. This is a Frankland 11 bolt with Howe wide 5 hubs. It's 2" wider on the drivers side, so I guess I will shorten that side, and change all the seals and whatever. The guy I got it from was selling it for a neighbor that passed. Looks like it has been sitting for some time. I have a couple of Wilwood front hubs that I have to figure out how to mount on my Camaro spindles/uprights. Who makes the threaded pins/ axles for the front without anything welded to them? Oh yeah, what is that welded on bracket close to the brake bracket with the big bolt and rubber bushing??
LOL, I am thinking about it. The rear is easy, just a different look. I have never seen one on the street. The front setup is gonna be harder. I need a couple of bare stubs. The Camaro has a bolt in front spindle and bearing assembly (hub).
This probably won't last long . Check out Coleman Machine in Menominee, MI. They used to carry a screw on wide 5 snout for Impala spindles.
I thought if this was used in a Late Model, it would be fine on the street? I don't know anything about these rears. I see a lot of posts with guys running these on street driven hot rods. Thanks for the Coleman Machine reference, I will check it out.
Why would it howl? I plan on using Winters helical cut gears. It is a 10 spline with 31 spline axles. I haven't opened it yet to see if it has a diff or spool---doesn't matter.
I used to race dirt latemodels, decided to put wide-5 wheels on the back of my current hotrod... Currently using wide-5 adapters, only reason it doesn't have a quickchange is I got lazy and didn't want to modify the gas tank. I built this double engine dirt latemodel back in the early 90's, the front had '70's Chevy pickup spindles that I made wide-5 spindle adapter sleeves for. I didn't bother making them screw-on, red Loctite kept them from spinning and the stock spindle nut on the Chevy spindle kept them in place... An old Frankland that I refurbished for the rotary powered latemodel above, it was pulled out of a brier patch... Grant
