Good day, I have a question.I have a OEM 56 MERCURY drive shaft and my car has a C6 transmission and I have the transmission yoke and the rear-end is the ORIGINAL 1956 Mercury I want to install the drive shaft. Does Naepco make one ?? Or take it to a drive shaft shop
You need the trans yoke in place to measure for a shaft anyway. Need the engine and trans mounted. Car with weight on the rear axle. Install the c6 yoke, allow about 5/8 to 3/4 for the yoke to move before bottoming out.(pushed all the way in) That merc rear u joint is probably like this need to measure from the center of the rear u-joint to the center of where the u-joint presses in the trans yoke Need to figure out what u-joint the c6 yoke uses and what front u-joint the merc has. There are conversion (bastard) u-joints to hook up different series u-joints https://www.moogparts.com/technical/bulletins/tech-tips/finding-the-right-replacement-u-joint.html A drive shaft shop will need this info Places like Dennys drive shafts is a great source I shorten my own. Lengthening one requires a new tube Conversion u-joints https://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/c976_combination_conversion_u_joints.html the c6 yoke might swap over to the 56 if the length is good
This is the Bible of u-joint selection and great general info. It has a good index of crossmatching, Spicer, Neapco, etc. http://www.carquestprofessionals.com/catalogs/drivetrain/2013_UJ_CATALOG_CQ.PDF
Good evening to Everyone. Just got my driveshaft from the shop, they had a C6 yoke in stock that someone ordered 1 year ago and didn't get it. I had to wait 2 days for shipping..Parts and Labor was $103.00 .. New C6 yoke to 56 Original driveshaft. Next is the column linkage to transmission and exhaust
Good evening..Been jammed working...I got the driveshaft situation FIXED!!!!!! She moves correctly, made my column shifter linkage with some ingenuity..EVEN the Backup lamps working in reverse
