Very, very nice. I know it wasn't easy or inexpensive but it sure was worth it! What a little sweetheart of an engine.

Donny and Bobby had sold the name by this time….. he stated that Donny had ground the cam which he was still allowed to do under the agreement…. Unfortunately we lost Donny a few years ago. He had been grinding all my cams since 1974. My son worked for him when he had his shop in Long Beach..

It will have an S10 T5 behind it, I put 4.11 gears out back so having overdrive will be nice. And it’s a hydraulic roller cam

I have mine on an old Lakewood stand with no problems. However I did reinforce the center post. Prior to having the menu on it we had a full dressed 454 mounted

I trust them to hold the weight, although by the time you fully build the long block spinning is a 2 man job. I meant running it. Blip the throttle on it and it's going to torque some. Fired a few engines on the ground and they will try to rotate.

The thought had crossed my mind, but I lowered the motor as far as possible putting the crank as far below the pivot point as I could, it was actually quite stable even with a little throttle blip. I had to spin it around a couple times fully assembled, took a little effort but not too bad. But thank you, I’m pretty proud of my first hemi.

So, do you have an estimate date of completion? I’m interest in how you’ll mount the motor in the frame. I assume it doesn’t have motor mount bosses

I’m very optimistically hoping to have it on the road by the end of the year, but you know what they say, the last 10% takes 90% of the time. But here’s an old shot from when I first got the motor mounts in. I took a hurst style mount and modified it to be able to fit a manual fuel pump (original plan but ended up going with electric) I do like the lowered mounting surface. IMG_1073.jpeg

That’s what I’m doing. I have a cradle mount from Speedway. Just need to mount it then find something to put it in

What size bolts did you go with on the timing cover? Grade 8? Was considering using studs vs bolts

They’re the standard size 5/16 and yes grade 8 for all the ones holding the motor mount, used the stainless hot heads allen bolts for the rest. I did cut off the spacers on the back of the motor mount which were .67 and turned my own .5” alum spacers which you can kinda see in this photo IMG_6465.jpeg

Cool, was thinking 7/16 or 3/8 but it looks like the 4 5/16th seem to able to carry the load. I’ll have the whitttle a bit on the aluminum cover in order for the welded spacers on the cradle fit flush

I also found out you can just buy .5” stainless spacers from ACE for like a buck a piece. Of course I saw them after I had already made mine. I also remember it had pretty awful spacer alignment which was rubbing on the timing cover, and the tack welds holding them on were also pretty bad so I was happy to cut em off. I beefed up the other welds on the piece as well, they would have probably held, but I know mine definitely will.

Buddy of mine is re-welding the spacers. I don’t weld anymore I have to yard it out. Good idea on the spacers. I may end up going that way. I have other things that need to be addressed on the motor. Like I said I’m still looking for a car to mount the motor in. I’d like to do a Bobber. I have my 52 Dodge. It has a 330 Desoto hemi. It’s running and driving, just needs some updates.
