So I recently got a 28 chevy roadster... puzzle. And I don't see them really at all out here. Not a whole lot online ether, everything is pretty much ford. Does anyone have pictures for build inspiration? I have a 28 frame i got my hands on. The puzzle body. I have a 350 chevy engine already. Picked up a chevy 10bolt rear axle.
Definitely a puzzle but you have most of the important pieces. Not many Chevrolets left because the body skin was nailed to a wood sub structure. The wood disintegrated and the bodys fell apart, returning to the earth. Neat to see a non Ford here, put it together and keep us in the loop
I just sold a truck and trailer load of 28 Chev stuff that I was hoping to use to build a speedster, but old age and health issues have gotten in the way. There are several threads on here about speedsters and using the original 4cyl. engine with some speed stuff. Also.....just for fun....find a copy of the Outlaw Sprint Car Racer which chronicles the life of John Gerber who built all sorts of roadster and speedster stuff for midwest dirt bowls using 1927-28 Chevrolet stuff. Keep us in the loop on your decisions and your build. Have fun
I would suggest using a model A front axle, spring and crossmember instead of the parallel leaf system of the chevy. Here's a stocker https://classiccars.com/listings/vi...-roadster-for-sale-in-cadillac-michigan-49601
There was a thread called “Three Springer , 3 springer picture “ that was about using a Ford rear buggy spring and a Chevy parallel front springs . Or maybe it was parallel rear springs and a Ford front axle buggy spring . lol
Glad to see another Chevy project, but that is a coupe body. They look like a roadster when the wood structure is taken out, because the top portion was all wood. flyin t shows a Chevy 27-28 roadster . Not to say you can't build one out of that as I did. Older picture, I redid the top rails.
Crenninger 27-28 Chev roadster have a longer trunk along with the body bead is different. If you look at flyin-t post you.ll see the difference along with cowl is rounded. Your cowl has a straight edge at the back and that was the lower windshield channel. I have had several of these both coupes and roadsters. I hope you do build it as a roadster and if you need help with anything let me know.... Ron
good to know, and i plan on it once i get my 51 ford running and driving which will be soon then the puzzle begins!! i already got a 28 chevy frame for 200$ locally.
This is running 1/4 elliptic springs front and rear, the rear uses the spring as the top link (as in 4 bar). Must be close to 15 years on the road now, and our roads are mostly chip seal and not the smoothest.
Not much on pics but a little info in each article. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/1928-chevrolet-national-ab/ https://www.hemmings.com/stories/hemmings-find-of-the-day-1928-chevrolet-track-roadster/
