I have this Police Special speedo and do not know how to mount it in my ‘32 roadster dash. Any ideas? Thank you

With all the gadgetry that makes them work properly and completely, they are supposed to be mounted in mid air, not in a panel. There were strap clamps that held them above the steering column.

Yeah, I'll second that. There are little trick mounts that were made for gauges that didn't have mounting studs that were built into the back of the cup, such as this one S/W made for the old Studebaker Golden Hawks. But, even if you could fabricate a custom one for your speedo, you might not be able to fit the unit in the hole, because of that big knob.

To complicate matters even more, there's not a whole helluva lot of overhang to the cup's lip in those speedos, meaning your dash hole would have to be very precise & relatively tight...no room to play.

The same problem exists for the cool old "survey" speedometers, which also didn't come with cup mounting studs. Here's a pic of one with the steering column mount, which is essentially what your speedo would have had.

Are you totally against mounting it on the column?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I am planning my early tach for the steering column. I may be able to fab a bracket and keep my dash opening in close tolerance. What is the big knob on top for?

Make sure it's an auto speedo & not for a motorcycle!

Smash the knob in close pursuit and the speedo locks the speed the perpetrator was traveling at.

The OP’s is a car speedo.
