I love maps! As a kid on out trips to &from Texas to Northern CA I would sit in the back seat and follow our progress check out route on the free filling Stanton maps. I always have maps on a trip and old ones have a lot of cool information.

  8. I still prefer them . I like looking at the whole entire area around where I am going to and coming from.

I prefer them too you got a map you can see the whole area better to plan an alternate escape route.
several years ago we were in Sioux Falls SD for baseball, I always get a city map at the motel desk when Im not familiar with the town Im in. My grand daughter was cruisin around with grandma and me. I wanted to make sure where we were so I said Lauren hand me that gps laying next to you so I can figure out where we are. I watched her in the rear view she looked around said grandpa I dont see it. I said its right next to your left hand. She said oh you mean this map. Yeah that was a gps when I was your age. we all had a good laugh. Every once in a while she bring the story up and we laugh about it.

  10. Yup.... we got lost on our own without some voice out of nowhere telling us how to do it!

When I first got married, we used to use maps when we went on vacation. My wife is map challenged, she couldn't grasp the concept of how a map worked to save her soul. I had to use a marker to draw the route we were taking, then turn the map so it was facing the direction we were traveling in. Then I resorted to just writing the route numbers when we had to turn, and had her watch for the road signs telling me when we were getting close.

The GPS was a great addition to our driving experiences. She is still unable to tell me how far away the next turn is, but the GPS tells us just before. At least with the GPS, she can tell me if the next turn will be to the right or the left before the GPS tells me to turn, most of the time...

GPS has a place but people have died around here because they were taken to remote places on bad roads. They are both tools and you have to learn to use them.

I bet he was happy all that action was behind him, but it looks like it may have been a wild ride after the big bang.

The way the older road maps used to be. I have this one I bought at a local swap meet.
This particular one is from 1947.
    Thanks from Dennis.

Did anyone ever really talk like the young people in the movies? I lived through those times and we used a word or two if that but mostly laughed at it.
