All depends on width of the wheel

On my '59 I run 235/75-15 tires out back on a 7" wide wheel. It is a tight fit to get them on and off. But they look great.

    I run 215/75-15 up front on a 6" wheel.

Largest practical size is 235 70 15 on a 7” steel wheel on the rear and 235 70 15 on front on a 6” steel wheel. I had my housing narrowed 5/8” and rolled the fender lips and can squeeze on 275 60 15 MT Radial Pros.

  7. This is a 10" wide 29" tall tire on an 8.5" wide American 5 spoke without modifying the wheelhouse or rolling the lip on the opening. I did however relocate the spring hangers and narrowed the housing a little. Maybe a few other things, I really don't remember. No, it's not pro street!

Thanks to all of you. This is a temporary fix for 2 junk tires and rims. I do have a pair of 15 inch rims until I start the repair process.

I ran 225/75-15's on a 15 x 7 Ridler wheel on the back of my Ranch Wagon. Don't remember the back spacing though.

With their rear body design mid 50’s Fords and other cars could not go crazy with the tire/wheel combos that came a long just a few yrs later. Most had 5” wide rims unless the were station wagons which could get 6” and what’s known as 85 series tires in todays world. Frames were not narrowed but rear quarters were radius for the bigger cheater slicks that came along. My 56 Ford can use 7’s but I used 6” with 75 series tires to get them off and it’s still not easy!
