At the Hershey PA swapmeet a couple weeks ago I saw a 1948 to 1952 Ford suburban looking truck. I forget which front it had so I don't know the exact year, but what was it? Is it a panel truck with windows, or did Ford make a suburban like passenger vehichle then. I thought it looked really cool and have never seen one. I didn't get a chance to check it out as I was on my way out.
I don't know about back then....but Ford sold suburban like vehicles in Mexico in the 60s-70s, I've seen a few up here with mexican plates.
A lot of the panel trucks had after market windows put in to the side panels. That would make it look like a "suburban"
Ford offered a Ranger, which was panel that was sent to the Shop of Seibert. Windows were installed, as well a seats. Then, it was sent to Marmon Herrington to be converted to All Wheel Drive. The first were done to 1942 sedan deliveries. Then in 48 the F1 panel lent itself quite nicely to this. Don't know, but 45-47 panels may have been converted to Rangers. This was last available in 56. By all accounts, less than 50 were made. There is one out there that is fake. You can tell by the front end, it has lockouts. The original F1 Marmon Herrington front axle just had a castle nut holding the hub on; much like the early Ford rear axles.
A few years back Street Rodder magazone covered a conversion of a 4 door 48 Ford into a "Suburban" by extending the roof, adding quarter windows and doors at the rear. It was a well done conversion and looked like a factory job. Don't know what ever became of it after the atricles, but converting a 4 door is possible.
