Other than some remaining floor work, the bottom of the car is completely painted . I used good old semi gloss black Rustoleum.

Rolled her outside today and did a deep cleaning of the car and the shop.

 

After a short break I'm back on the floor pans. Started on the right front today.
Saving the support bracket in the upper right corner was a bit of a pain in the ass but everything else went as expected.
She's slowly becoming rust free

 

Got the RF floor pan roughed out and saved the stiffener.

 

asking in order to learn...is it worth the effort to salvage the stiffener vs making a close enough (unless going to pebble beach..! )

Great question and thanks for asking. I would say it was. It's a channel with compound curves which would be difficult to re-create. It was in great shape as the rust was on the inside of the floor pan. Lastly, the floor pan was so rusted that it was only held on by two spot welds (easy to remove) and the grinder cleaned it up nice. Here's a couple pics that hopefully show it better

I just joined the group...also ripped both bi-ceps from the bone... so no shifting or pushing a clutch in...
being old sucks,,.. but getting here was hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Yea, my Race Car is a 4-speed and I am considering putting an automatic in it. The stick is so much fun to race but it adds variables to a run and even though I have a soft loc clutch it still breaks parts. As you age, it's all about making things easier. I want to race the Biscayne so It will have an automatic. I do have a 4-speed set-up for it and when I get to the point that it becomes a street car only, I'll consider putting it in.

 

I got the right front floor pan fitted. It doesn't look like a lot of progress but I've spent hours on it. One thing I've learned during this floor project is the better the fit, the easier it is to butt weld and the nicer it comes out. A little extra time here saves aggravation.
I also got the core support and fan shroud in primer. I've had these parts back from the blaster since back in the spring. They went to the back of the shop and had been forgotten. Decided to get them in paint while it's still nice enough to paint outside.

 

Looking good! Does paint taste better than grinder grit?

Right front floor pan cleaned up, primed, and tacked in. Sprayed some rust encapsulator into the exposed area of the floor brace and painted the parts that I wont be able to get to after the pan is installed.

No pics (cause it's kinda boring) but I changed the right door hinge pins and bushings. Not necessary at this point but the door would drop down, close like shit, and it was driving me crazy.

 

Great progress. I still have more rust to cut out of my car.
I got pulled away from my project to work on a few more 62s. One a real SS that was a 6 cylinder automatic now 409 4 speed with ignition problems a 62 Biscayne getting a 409 4 speed and a Impala rag top turned SS getting a 409 and 5 speed. Funny back in my day job people found out I worked on British and that was what I worked on most. Not having my day job I have been working on a lot of 62 Chevys now.

I didn't get much garage time this week but I did get the RF floor pan welded and cleaned up. Hoping to get the stiffener welded on this week and clean up and paint the bottom.

 

Keep swinging the axe and the tree will fall. Looking good.

I finally got the RF floor pan finished up. Cleaned up the butt weld underneath. Plug welded the stiffener with a couple self tappers holding it in place. Hit it with a coat of short strand fiber reinforced and then some gold. Got it painted.

 

Moving on to the left front floor pan. More than half of this pan was solid but I've gone this far so I decided to chop the whole thing out.

 

You are doing what I did not want to do to my old ‘63. Go man go!

 

I have never done sheet metal fab. When I bought the car I figured the floor would be a fun way to learn something new. I have learned a lot, fun not so much. I was apprehensive at first but I'm gaining confidence and doing better as I go.
