    Hey Don,
Here's a picture of a black '39 from the Nats East in York 1987. I don't know if it is the same car as this one has been "Street Rodded" a bit. Looks like a flush single windshield a**** other things. A lot of things can happen to these cars in 13 years if it's the same one.:D Chevy sedan del from York87.jpg

....It's entirely possible that it is the same car. Certainly hard to tell. I think these Virginia guys might be on the right track with a car that may still reside there. Like you mentioned though, things change over the years for sure. I just hope that the car still survives somewhere as I would enjoy seeing it. Thanks for posting the image.....Don.

So, the mystery thickens. :D...This morning I'm perusing the March 1974 issue of R&C which included coverage from the previous Fall edition of Hershey. Lo and behold I see this '39 Sedan Delivery along with a Sedan. Could it be the same car? The stance looks right. The slots look right. Hershey is pretty close to Northen Virginia. Maybe, maybe. What say you? Is it the same Sedan Delivery? CCI06292023_0001.jpg CCI06292023.jpg

Studying the pictures, the car at Hershey has door mount mirror and the original images from R&C show those clip on style peep mirrors. the image from Hershey also appears to be before paint and perhaps the mirrors got changed.? Are those rear wheel well openings radiused or is it just the stance makes it look that way? Looks the same on both cars..Maybe, maybe. Thanks for all of the responses.

By the way @oj may be on to something. Stay tuned..:)

I just spoke to George, he did do the interior of Tommy's car, Tommy still has it along with 2 or 3 other early Chevy hot rods.
I was mistaken, it wasn't George that wrecked with the Whoopie car, it was another engine builder, Mike Thompkins' 'Winged Avenger' I believed his car was called and the Corvette is tucked away. He said Tommy still does shows etc and has a shop away from the city where he works on his cars.

...WOW! Great detective work @oj and thanks for that. So happy to hear that both George and Tommy are still with us and apparently still quite active in the hobby. Wonder if there is any chance of getting either one or both on here. What great stories they could tell I'm sure. I'm amazed that Tommy still owns the car. Talk about your long term ownership!! Would love to see more pictures of it. Would love to see it in person for sure. Thanks again for helping so much for solving this mystery...Don.

George 'wasn't eager' to do anything on the internet is how I'd paraphrase his sentiments. He relaxed a little after we talked and reminisced for a while racing at MIR & Colonial Beach, he knows Tommy quite well and that he's 84ish. I think I know a couple other guys that would know him too and will ask around. It would be nice for him to know we are admiring his hot rod.

So is George the machinist or interior guy or both? I’m quite a bit younger so I only kind of remember George Cox the machinist. Raced a 60/61/62 corvette??

.....Yes for sure. If the opportunity presents itself, please let him know that we love the car and have such profound respect for him and others who paved the way for the rest of us.

    Yes & yes, fr
Yes to all the above, if I understood George correct his dad owned the upholstery shop.
I tried to get him to send photos of the Corvette, it's special.

The Woopie , I believe Originally built raced by S&S , then Lee Edwards owned
""The General"" raced , then Greg C ? owned, Wrecked @ Colonial Beach with Corvette , That Barry Clayton owned,
Greg C ? Was having Whoopie restored / rebuilt , A week or so before completion Greg p***ed , the Whoopie is Now owned by Barry , Witch has a Newer Black Angela , there also is Blown Angela Altered,
There has been rain last few weeks
(No racing ) I will look for Clayton & ask about The Panel , whoopie & pic of club car guys ,
Lee's shop same place , Old dairy milking Barn , most drive by Not knowing Engine building shop.

Not sure what happened to the og steel Whoopie car after the crash, but the driver at the time Craig Hennigie (my apologies if I spelled that wrong) brought a 'Gl*** Anglia body to Bob Rizzoli's RCD in Gaithersburg MD to build another Whoopie car. He had the og engine transand maybe the rear.. He also built a 'gl*** dodge charger Mike Tompkins. Mike is a big mopar 440 fan.

Lee Will defiantly be missed , I grew up in Calverton Va. right across the field and up the street about 1/2 block from him , the air was filled with dyno runs on most saturdays and sundays when his customers came out to visit their engines , by the time i was 14 and change Dad and I built a Altered from scratch right on the floor in our garage , Lee being neighborly gave us advise and we helped him "clean out his attic" for parts ,, he was quite the character ,, had alot of redskins hanging around ,, john riggins etc,, they would come out to shoot and ride 3wheelers ,, he allways treated locals fairly no matter what you needed ,,He and dad were about a month apart age wise and hit it off very well from the begining we moved out there in '79 ,, as a kid on a bicycle seeing a big rig parked on the road containing Dale Pulde's War Eagle funny was just awsome ,, after Dad retired he worked for Lee for 4 or 5 years doing balancing .headwork and ***embly ,, dad allways missed it after moving to florida ,, lost pop 4 1/2 years ago Lee and he were real good buddies Lee was a good guy and I personally Will miss him ... Dang i miss those days woulnt trade em for anything ,,,,
