    "Meep-Meep"

    Hello,

When we left high school, my friend who had been going with a girl since junior high school finally broke up. So, on graduation, he was finally single and sad at the same time. His girlfriend was a good friend of mine and we sat together in several classes in our junior and senior years. So, it seemed like a natural for her to call me in the summer to see if we could go to the local college together. What could I say, she was one of the best looking and coolest girls on campus and I had no way to deny her wanting to drive with me in my 58 Impala. She had been in it many times with her boyfriend on double dates.

But, what surprised me was when she drove over to my house to pick me up, she had a black Renault Dauphine 4 door sedan. It had yellow and white rims + blackwalls. It was a three speed stick shift and had the cutest horn.. a high pitch beep beep and a lower pitch normal horn. The first car I knew that had two horns as a standard feature. So, I kept hearing the high pitch beep beep on her days to drive.

The fun thing was it could go 0-60 in a record 32 seconds. My Impala could do 0-60 in 6 seconds. It was like night and day. But, the little 4 cylinder had something my Impala did not have. An actual air intake in front of the rear wheels to draw actual air into the engine compartment in the rear. My scoop was there, but it was for design only and not functional.

So, when I stepped out of the black Renault in the parking area our group chose, everyone wanted to know if this was my new car. Ha!. But, when this wonderful girl stepped out in her finest college attire, all eyes went to her and not me. Aww. The Renault was in second view look and I came in a distant 3rd.

But a few days later, it was my turn to drive and we arrived in my 58 Impala one week and in another week, the Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. Yes, all with the coolest girl from our old high school.

She even let me drive that cute little Renault Dauphine on days she was a little late and had to do girl stuff on the way to school. Ha! Talk about a fun car to drive, but had to be the slowest car in the slowest lane. But, while waiting in the parking area where our friends were, it was an envious place to be… YRMV
