I am still going to the nitro revival. Official Statement from Steve Gibbs: 10.19.24: As announced by Track Operator Tim Huddleston earlier this morning, Irwindale Speedway will cease operations at the end of 2024. Although it was an announcement we've been expecting for some time, the reality of losing another racing facility will have a major impact on motorsports...and in particular, Nitro Revival. While it obviously means that our upcoming event will be our final production at Irwindale, Cindy and I have every intention of producing future Nitro Revival events. Talks are now in progress regarding alternative sites and plans for 2025, and we expect to make a detailed announcement very soon. We are absolutely dedicated and committed to continue our efforts in presenting events that celebrate the unforgettable cars and unique individuals from the golden ages of hot rodding and drag racing. Nitro Revival is not going away. We invite our loyal participants and fans to join us on November 8th and 9th for our farewell to Irwindale. With your continued support, we look forward to future Nitro Revival events for years to come.
Yep, was there for the last race. Wasn't anything big or fancy. Mostly a bunch of stock bodied cars. Irwindale Raceway, #2 is history. Last I heard Willow Springs Raceway (above) IS for sale. But this was a short while back. Haven't heard anything lately. Mike P.S. - Yes, as noted above, they said that most of the track equipment will be on the way to Kevin Harvicks, Kern County Raceway on Tuesday (12.10).
I saw it and thought it was well laid out. Not just CA sucks, not the NIMBY only, it's a number of things but mainly the amount of money tied into it and decreasing popularity. EDIT: I realize that's just confirmation bias since it's a lot like what I posted, but he also mentions video gaming. Wild Horse had more than just a 1/4 mile and had the protections/exemptions of being on tribal land but still couldn't make it work.
