Hello all. I'm new here and have already found a lot of useful information. I have a 1956 TOWMOTOR LT 460 forklift. I'm planning on removing the lift cylinder and replacing all the seals. I believe the lift cylinder is a "Tripple Action" type. One piston rod comes out the bottom, and two rods come out the top. I am looking for guidance on the dis-***embly process for this type of lift cylinder. I brought it to a local hydraulic shop, and they don't want to service it. So, it looks like I am on my own to figure it out.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Send me a picture of the cylinder.

The upper gland nut is removed. But, from what I understand, there will also be inner seals on this type of cylinder?

you have to remove the castellated nut. There are seals in there and also on the piston. One you pull the shaft out; you will need to look at the barrel sides and the piston. you may have to hone to clean. It's a single stage cylinder so its easy
Replace all of the seals and "O" rings.

at the top of the page on the right are three little icons: a man, an envelope, and a lightning bolt. The envelope is the PM.

Thank you. it is considered a single stage even though it has 3 individual pistons? One that comes out of the bottom, and the two you see in the picture, come out of the top?

The piston is at the end of the barrel, at the top is called the packing gland. Single action is power up and gravity down, double action is power both ways.
Single stage is just one rod and multistage is multiple rods.

Got it, thanks. It seems pretty simple to take it apart then. Simply slide the pistons out. I'm not sure why the hydraulic shop I brought it to won't do that.

I’d look for another hydraulic shop. Don’t know where you’re at but there’s 2 in my area . But only one I’d recommend
