upload_2024-11-1_4-52-45.png a modified street roadster for the drags
    Hello,

A roadster is for being out in the open highway, cruising. In the years we have been around the So Cal coastal highway from Santa Barbara to San Diego, we have seen three on the road. One, the folks were bundled up like it was winter. It was cold, but not for snowy Big Bear Lake roadster weather.

The second, two guys out on a sunny day, with the blue sky complementing the blue ocean. What a sight… The third was a bright red 32 roadster with the owner/driver smiling the whole time we saw him zip by us. So, the weather plays a part of open roadster road trips. So Cal usually has warm weather, except for those thick marine layer moisture days or fog attacking the coastal plains.

But, having been in an open roadster, it was one of those things to enjoy while the views go flashing by… YRMV

A modified street roadster running in the hot roadster class is/was possible. Due to the fact that the front spoke wheels were added and the original ones taken off prior to the tech inspection. The headers were all connected to a through muffler system, but could be opened to utilize the individual pipes, when racing.

So, prior to racing at the dragstrip, a safety rollbar is installed to qualify for the “hot roadster” class.

This hot roadster photo from one of my old films, was the impetus for the rust color art drawing, with some modifications, of course.

  7. Here is a drawing my 7 year old grandson drew for me this week. He free handed it with sharpie markers. He loves Hot Rods. The photo is of him in his first Rod. At 3 years old? IMG_6515.jpeg IMG_4802.jpeg

That's awesome! And honestly super impressive he got the dimension of the side of the car and hood/scoop/windshield/roof and blower belt. Amazing a 7 year old did that depth freehand.

  10. Apologies for the poor quality of these images. Technology has been letting me down lately.
    I may try again later…

I hope everyone had a good all Hallow’s Eve!

I did these views of the water pump for my miniature in 2004 before it first ran.

This was my donation I made for the California Hot Rod Reunion art & panel Jam that I organized, made from a cabinet door and some plastic Home Depot sink j-pipes! We raised some money for the Bakersfield Fire Department Foundation. An awesome day at Famoso !

IMG_0295.jpeg IMG_0293.jpeg I cut a 1/3 of the backside off so I could use punches to form the facial features. The bridge of the nose cracked as I pounded it into shape . So then I realized that I should have annealed it first . I welded up the nose and ground it to shape .

Man that is cool. Wish I had the metalworking skill to do that.

    Cheers,
