This beautiful '51 is ONLY listed for sale because a car I have had my eye on for some time is now available. If that changes, I will not be selling this. I have a beautiful '51 Ford convertible available for purchase. It's ready to cruise, show, and enjoy right now. That's what I am currently doing with it. Not a Concours show car, but definitely a Goodguys show participant. I bought this from an elderly gentleman, who bought it from a long-term collection in Palm Springs, CA whose owner had passed away. He sold it to me due to health reasons. It came to me with no documentation other than what I was told, but based on what I have seen when looking it over and under, the story seems good enough. Clear CA title in my name with 42,XXX actual miles listed. 42,XXX original miles, with a cosmetic restoration. I have been underneath the car, and didn't see any evidence of major surgery, patch panels, etc. 6.70-15 bias WWW tires in great shape. Would radials drive better? Probably. Stock 8BA flathead with Canadian heads, aluminum Canadian intake with a converted oil bath air cleaner, real Fenton cast iron headers, and dual glass packs. Runs like a sewing machine, with absolutely no smoke. Everything is still 6 volt Non overdrive 3-speed transmission which shifts great and has nice clutch feel. With what I assume is still the 3.54:1 rear end, It is a very comfortable cruiser All lights, gauges (including under dash temp gauge), accessory turn signals, function as they should. Interior is stock, and needs nothing. Power top works, but it's a convertible and I have it down virtually all the time (except for some photos below. Matching boot included, and shown in some pictures. Recent work that I have done, and some that is planned: Installed a 6 volt PowerGen alternator, with a new charge wire. Works great. I kept the original generator, which will go to the new owner. New NAPA 6 volt battery...some photos show the 8 volt it had when I bought it Lowered the rear to fix the stance. The front has dropped uprights & springs, and I lowered the rear with 3" blocks. I added Monroe air shocks to adjust for the weight of passengers, an ice chest, etc. It airs up immediately with a small Ryobi air pump that also goes with the car. I had a professional "paint correction" and 5 year ceramic treatment done. This was expensive, and well worth the result. The paint is really stunning, and has a minimum number of paint chips from limited use. I purchased a complete steering rebuild kit from Shoebox Central that I have yet to install (center link, inner/outer tie rods, drag link kit). This is one of those things that you "just do" with a Shoebox. These are still in the trunk, ready to install. I was going to have the front end re-aligned when these parts were installed. Depending on the photos, the car may/may not be wearing it's 3-rib skirts. It comes with them, and they are nice. I have the original Ford dog dish caps & beauty rings for it, as well as a perfect set of Cal Custom Hollywood Flipper caps, as well as a beautiful set of '54 Chrysler hubcaps (my preference). All of these are included, or could be negotiated out of the deal. The passenger side windshield has a bulls-eye chip, and my glass shop says it can be repaired. I just haven't taken it in yet. The engine bay is VERY clean, but not fully detailed out. See pictures. This could be an easy weekend project to paint the engine, if you like having the hood up at shows. That's not my thing. I removed the (show quality) stock hood ornament, and have a '50-style hood ornament and stainless trim bead on order. I prefer that look, and will install when it arrives or it will all go to the new owner. The black top is nice and serviceable, but does have 2 small holes. My detailer offered to have his upholstery guy patch/repair them, but the time line interfered with a show. I can coordinate that, or adjust sale price accordingly. Rear window is nice. The 1951 CA license plate is registered to the car, and is on the title. There is a matching plate & frame for the front. I just prefer the naked look. Both plates are perfect. This is a great car, and probably going to be the nicest shoebox convertible at a show unless one rolls out of an enclosed trailer with white gloves. It's priced accordingly. You wont be able to bring a lesser example to this level for the same overall investment. Please message me with any questions. Happy to deliver to the port for international shipment, or coordinate domestic shipping. Payment by conventional means - no BS. Message me with any questions. I have a lot more photos, and can get as many others as you wish. Thanks for looking Todd Currently wearing skirts and '54 Chrysler caps:
Came down a bit on price. May consider a trade with cash on top for an interesting trade. Just enjoyed a 50 mile round-trip to work. Here's how the car looks right now, with restored '54 Chrysler hubcaps, Original skirts, and just a touch of speedboat stance. Also includes a brand new car cover.
