Anybody got any "how-too's" on pulling this abortion-from-hell out of the steering column & replacing it ?
As you know the turn signals high beams wipers wind shield washer cruise control stalk is installed so that NO visible screws, slots, bolts, nuts are visible.
My Chilton Manual is pretty well useless on this repair.:)eek: surprise!)
After 1/4 million miles on this little puppy it's starting to annoy me when the wipers cycle-on (by themselves)..... when ever I make a right turn !
Shirley....some of you guys have used one of these columns in your street rods.......
    Thanks fellows !

As Jim stated, pull it straight out.
But before you get too ahead of yourself, tie a string to the wire connector at the base of the column so you can easily re pull the new switches wire harness back through the column.

Well...we need to do the same thing on my kids 92 and haven't tackled it yet since it looks like a PITA. We actually have the replacement part, just haven't done it yet.

There's a pin that fits into a groove in the hole, and there's a spring loaded something that seats in the groove on the lever. Pretty easy, but baffling until you know the secret trick.

I watched a video on YouTube to figure that part out. Main mess I see is dragging the wiring back and forth through the column. I'm sure it isn't that bad, but I am mainly just waiting on my kid to do it. :D

Sooooo...replacing the stalk (just pull it out!) will solve all the phantom wiper swishing to & fro !?

We didn't troubleshoot your problem, we just told you how to pull out the lever.

Typically a random sweep on the wipers on that era of GMs is the pulse module board on the wiper motor.

Back in the 90s, my buddy who is a dealership parts guys would keep a handful of them right underneath his counter where he sat so he didn't have to walk back to the shelf every time he needed to sell one. It was that common.

If the wipers are cycling after using the stalk its most likely the stalk and not the board.
You should feel a click, if the stalk switches just slide about, being rotation for wipers or the slide switch for cc the stalk is bust. The only smooth action should be from the spring loaded wiper fluid flag when rotated forward as it should rotate back and not latch.

On a CC car the damn switch more than once slid ON. Spooky when the car would keep going, uphill, when off the pedal.
I prefer the older ON/OFF CC master switched system.
