It needs to look "right" for me but like they say about the beholder, we all have differing sensibilities. Now, to my eye, there is some leeway in how a 32 bodied race car will appeal to me especially a fenderless drag car. And again, to me, 32's as customs will look wonky no matter what's been done, just me.
Completely fucks the proportions. The axle should not be behind the radiator on that early of a car. Makes it look like a hackjob.

Crawford/Stroner '32 used spring in front. Definitely a modification that suits channelled '32 Funny how the "East Coast Look" was invented on the "West Coast" If you go full fender on a '32 with spring in front like Roy Desbrow you need a frame cover to hide crossmember. Putting '35-later frontend in stock '32 spring location car will be goofy as hell full fended

That's a '33 model B or V8. Euro '32 fords sold in '33 had front skirted fenders, some had a chromed grille shell too.
Here are some pictures for comparison of many of the little nuances that people use and you can study them to see what each of you like and dislike. I currently plan to extend the front end 2-3 inches on my 32 build, as I think it looks good, but more importantly provides more room for the engine without having to recess the firewall and give up valuable foot space. First example has a 4" extension. Look at the area between the hood and the door. Below.........NOT Stretched My opinion is without a chopped top they look kinda stubby.... Ahhh! Chopped top looks less stubby.....mo better. No fenders and chopped........looks good to me. I actually like the rake/stance on this coupe better than the Gammel coupe. A little stretch might look even better. The style of build someone does can affect how stretching or not stretching compliments the finished look. Looking at these pictures, it appears to me that having fenders makes the car appear longer (yes it is longer) but when there aren't any fenders they do look kinda stubby (IMHO). I know this doesn't answer the OPs question about shortening one, but I have trouble picturing how shorter could be done or if its just wheelbase shortening.....maybe without fenders it might work but with fenders I think it would look wrong. Just my opinion tho........
Not trying to give you a hard time my friend but the correct spelling for the 1932 Ford is Deuce, Duce is a Italian word meaning dictator, I was guilty of spelling it that way in the past. HRP
I like the wheels forward in the wheel well best, like an L29 Cord, makes it look like there is forward motion, Long and low is great, stumpy is stumpy, never a good look, don't go for stumpy looking cars is my opinion..
Well first, let me say that the shorter the WB the bigger the road bumps feel. Grew up in Philly area, a few miles from me, was a roadster with a lot of custom tin work. One day I caught the owner and we talked a while about rods. I asked him how it drove. He said "The only thing wrong with this car is the front axle, ( sitting aft of the rad and the engine front ) needs to be here." Pointing to the front of the rad.
Looks like the majority here agree. A little longer is better. My Hi boy. 110" wheelbase. Hood is hardly any longer than stock because I installed it vertical. Not leaning forward. I moved the windshield back for a longer looking front.
I like seeing a 3 window that has a stock roof, personally chopped they tend to look like a glass car, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a glass car,everyone can't afford a steel car. Thankfully there are no rules in building hot rods or custom's. HRP
I always had trouble deducing how to spell it because the word "due" is spelled "due" and I just always wanted to ad "ce" to it...................I gotta keep reminding myself that's wrong now . ( )
If it looked any better than IRON AND STEELS Deuce, it would be against the law to own it, just sayin !
