Hi can anybody please confirm if a 1956 F100 with an original Gemmer steering box has an equal number of right and left steering wheel rotations from center to full lock left and full lock right ?

Yes, all old Gemmer steering boxes did.

  3. If your truck does not have the same number of rotations left and right it can be that your drag link is not adjusted correctly. It could be that your wheels turn to their stops before your steering box is turned all the way. If so, then it will turn all the way in the other direction but will not turn the wheels enough to come to their stops. A little adjustment there may correct the problem and then you will have to recenter the steering wheel.

Whatever you do, make sure the box is centered first. Forget the steering wheel and the drag link. The worm gear needs to be in its exact center as the car is going straight down the road. Then you can fit an adjustable drag link between the pitman arm and the spindle. Last adjust the wheel on the shaft, not rotate the shaft just to fix the steering wheel.
