Gents, found this vintage 6 cylinder Sun tach on EBay. Would like to find a steering column mount housing for it. Seems deeper than most of the housings I’ve seen. I’m hoping that a housing does exist for this model? Shows model RF-5 on tag rear of tach. Thanks! Al
I can't help but doesn't it also say it is for a 2-cycle? Like for a 6-71 Diesel or a 2-cycle outboard marine engine? If that's the case it may read only half engine speed on a conventional automotie six cylinder. EDIT: I know most diesels don't have coil ignitions. They may have tach signal generators. Re the housing: If you want to get creative maybe part of a stainless steel water bottle or the like could be made to work. I once lost the stainless steel center cap for a motor home wheel and the RV manufacturer wanted $176 dollars for a new one. Nope. I sent my wife out for a stainless steel dog dish, cut it down and with a little hammer forming made it work. Saved $166 dollars.
I think the first thing I'd do is hook it up to an engine - any spark ignited engine - and see if it works. Depending on the number of cylinders and the needle movement you could see if it works and if it is relatively accurate. Doing this in a car with another tach wired in would be a plus.
