Decided to take a chance today and shoot the fenders. 4:1/a splash more reducer/and the hardener. Checked the gun. Wet the floor tarp and tack ragged the fenders.
To say I am pleased is an understatement. I even used two tooth picks/like chop sticks to remove my only bug and it laid down perfect on the second and third coat. This is the way I wished the Willy’s had laid down. And I would have never cleared it.
    Still pleased.
Will paint rear doors and trunk the front doors and cap. Body last. I like painting it apart. At least it’s easier to handle. Or appears to be.

Rear doors and trunk for the Prefect. Three Coats. One run but is on the horizontal plane of the bottom of the window opening.
Translation it’s not visible as it ran all the way to the inside window edge.
They are not perfectly straight but they are slick and shiny. A couple of small nibs. ( one permanent Knat)But not bad at all. IMG_3165.jpeg IMG_3164.jpeg IMG_3163.jpeg IMG_3166.jpeg

No not perfect but close. The fact that they are not perfect even after blocking several times and they still look decent. A quick buff after or when I finally get it back together and I’ll be happy. Leaves spare tire door /front cap /and the body.

Spare tire door painted. Considering I used high fill clausen primer 3 coats to fill in the pits I thought it turned out good. IMG_3210.jpeg IMG_3211.jpeg

IMG_3228.jpeg IMG_3231.jpeg IMG_3230.jpeg IMG_3229.jpeg IMG_3232.jpeg IMG_3234.jpeg Front cap finished. Leaves the main body. I think I will cut the window openings and the edges and rain gutter rails first. I will aluminum foil the cage/cover the floor. Then do the final scuff and sand.

Pulled the cap out of the booth to see it in direct light. Not bad. Also cut the window openings and the drip rail in today. I cleaned and sanded around each and then painted. I also made sure I let it run /fill in the grooves around the top gasket where I filled in the top. IMG_3237.jpeg IMG_3236.jpeg IMG_3239.jpeg IMG_3241.jpeg IMG_3240.jpeg

Primed the headlight buckets. Will paint the buckets red and use the stainless rings on the front. The mounts will be left stainless also. IMG_3246.jpeg IMG_3245.jpeg

IMG_3266.jpeg IMG_3267.jpeg IMG_3262.jpeg IMG_3267.jpeg IMG_3260.jpeg IMG_3261.jpeg IMG_3262.jpeg Ok. Sanded and blocked the body today and started the masking. It’s as slick as it gonna be. Hoping to lay the red to it Saturday.
Got to make a decision on whether to use rapture liner with red/or black on the rockers to make them more resistant. The frame and cage is /will be black. The interior will Probably be a metallic silver to match the aluminum firewall and tunnel. The door panels and back panel will be aluminum so I have choices of color or just plain aluminum.
Also the roof insert is .040 aluminum with baked in white enamel. It’s going to be covered with the factory vinyl and tucked and sealed using new top rubber gasket. Will put some upholstery foam under ( 3 m the crap out of it ) it to give it the look.( for the record Loud Bang gave me a group of pictures that had different roof / pads )

Ok. Over all pretty pleased. I have two runs. Not an issue easy to deal with after it cures. Use my nibler and wet sand and buff. One isn’t really visible. So it may get left alone. Over all a good slick and buff and as a race car will be good enough. IMG_3278.jpeg IMG_3280.jpeg IMG_3279.jpeg IMG_3281.jpeg IMG_3282.jpeg IMG_3283.jpeg

Finished the interior coating and paint. I used this when I did the Willy’s and the 57.
Rapture liner one part. Metal flake one part. Rustoleum one part. Hardener activator one part. Plus two extra cap fulls. Mix. And use the small rollers. Fine brush for places roller wouldn’t get too. Let it flash and skim over for an hour and then a second coat. I’ll recut using the red on the vertical step/with the rapture mixed in. Gives just enough texture to give the look I want. It also coated the roof and bows well. Can’t complain. I figure I’ll let it cure for a full day. Maybe a little longer. Unmask cage and see how many places I get to touch up on it. IMG_3288.jpeg IMG_3289.jpeg IMG_3290.jpeg IMG_3291.jpeg IMG_3292.jpeg

Sealed seams with gutter gray. It sets up solid and should dry same color as interior. If it’s off a little I’ll retouch with paint.
Also spent 4 hours putting the felt strips on the inside of my inner window trim so it kills the rattle. As if I’ll hear itcwith open headers. Lol.
And it’s official the power plant will stay sbc /hilborn /and possibly a windmill but the blower on my six hangs off too far to the side to clear the driver side front cap. And I refuse to cut it. At least not the Side. If I go blower on sbc may IMG_3288.jpeg View attachment 6246341 View attachment 6246342 IMG_3329.jpeg IMG_3331.jpeg IMG_3330.jpeg IMG_3333.jpeg IMG_3334.jpeg IMG_3335.jpeg have to cut the top for clearance but that’s another issue when or if that time comes.

It took 2 hours to get the back window in. And the replacement rubber is short by 1/4 in , but it’s in and clear clean windows never looked so good. Quarter windows an inside molding are in. And the I was pleased with the way the reproduction seals looked. Got passenger rear door hung, window felt track and inner molding installed.yes I even put the factory ash trey back in. IMG_3354.jpeg IMG_3355.jpeg IMG_3357.jpeg IMG_3358.jpeg IMG_3359.jpeg IMG_3360.jpeg IMG_3361.jpeg I decided to call it a day. Was a good day.

I am almost certain I will install three/ more like four panels to the interior, not counting the inner door panels.
I am going to bring one down from package tray to the floor. It will have to be two pieces because of roll bar down legs. And I will also install a panel from under the quarter window molding to the top of the wheel house. I think it will look good. If don’t like it I can always remove or take back out.

Ok. This past week was a reminder of why time is precious. Mrs Ann ( Micks mother passed Monday). Laid her remains to rest Wednesday. She is at peace now. And Mr CM , Micky, and Mrs Ann are whole and together again.
Wes and I got back at it in the shop today. Got the back drivers side door installed , window and track felt are in but it has to come back out so I can install anti rattle strips and the inner molding and felt. IMG_3384.jpeg IMG_3383.jpeg IMG_3382.jpeg

On another note. I gotta get door seals. The one gasket /body seal I don’t have. Yes it’s a race car but in for a penny in for a pound.

    It has been.
Got the front doors hung. Shimmed and set.
Got the driver side felts /tracks and window in. Scratched it in a spot. But buffed it out. Maybe I’ll get them finished this week. Need to put the front cap on and measure and convince my self once and for all that my blown six won’t fit. lol IMG_3436.jpeg IMG_3437.jpeg IMG_3438.jpeg
