wondering what a banger with no mufflers would sound like... if you split it 2 to 1 and straight pipes, couldn't be any louder than a harley????? and seems it wouldn't be that loud unless you run the motor to red line??? anyone do it???
I have this roadster straight pipe to just in front of the passenger rear wheel. It’s not that loud and doesn’t sound too terrible. It’ll get something a little more permanent in the future.
I don’t know about four cylinder but I have never run mufflers on any of my flatheads. They are a bit loud when your in the throttle but not offensive.
I run my bangers 1-4 and 2-3 split and they're pretty quiet puttin' around but wind them out and they're loouud!
That is similar to what I want to do. I dont have the written plan in front of me but I was gonna do the split and run 2 pipes to each side. Not sure how it would sound but I was hoping to have a twin cyl. motorcycle effect on each side. If memory serves me right it was 1-3 and 2-4
I ran a glasspack on my 30 pickup with a warmed over B engine and will do the same with the banger powered 29 roadster pickup I'm building now. The 30 had a Red's header and the 29 will have a stock exhaust manifold, don't think the price of a header is justified on what I'm building.
when # 1 fires It pulls the air out of # 2 and when #4 fires it pulls the air out of #3... when #1 fires theres a dead spot skipping #2... same with #2 skiping to #3...when You split you get a poping in the exhaust, and probley a reversion and for sure less low end torque
duel exhaust, live lake pipes... header split 1-2 and 3-4... but with mufflers and flex pipes... B banger 7-1 head down draft stromberg .... potato potato, potato potato, potato potato, potato potato
@ALLDONE -With all due respect the firing order thing has been done to death, none of my bangers lack for low end torque, the plugs all show very even color and I like the sound of the split. Reminds me of a pair of a G15 Matchless I used to ride.
I’ve got a project that will use an A motor, and I’ll need to build a header (with no muffler) for it. This talk about which split to use is interesting. But does it really have much effect on the engine unless it’s a real “built mill”?
yes it matters..I went off dyno results.... the a is a harley type motor, and all done at 3000 rpms...the torque comes in sooner with a 12-34 split... on a 13-42 split the exhaust air is farther down the pipe and has less suction pull when the next cyl. fires.. of coarse pipe size matters.... it's like a good way to kill the torque on a sm block chevy... put dragster zoomies on it... every cyl fire it has to push the exhaust out.. not getting much out of a carb'd A or B banger...
