My old Bennet pump reminds me of when I was cruisin from the Witch Stand to Hermosa,,,could go all night on pocket change!
I worked at a Texaco station in 1966 and we were 28.9 for regular and 32.9 for Ethyl, at the time we were considered expensive as the station across the intersection was 26.9 for regular. People actually would leave and go across the street for 2 cents. Tell me again how there is no inflation!
Working at the “Big Donut” on Manchester/La Cienega and driving between the Wich Stand and the A&W in Hawthorne I was paying $.19.9 starting in 1959…. A pack of Cigarettes were $.25 about the same as a gallon of premium and $1.00 hr job/25 hrs a week gasoline was a way better deal.
I stocked my shelves with dinnerware giveaways in the 60s..Plus they pumped the gas, checked the oil and cleaned the windshield. Now you just get smelly hands at the gas pump
Now that’s . I got married in August of 66 so my light to light street racing on Hawthorne Blvd was about finished by then. Did my share mooning over the years finally finishing up a few years ago at the train going thru San Juan Capistrano. One of these days at a car gathering we need find each other!
My wife and I collect silver ware from Chevron stations before we were married in 1966. I worked in the Baldwin Hills oil field for Standard Oil of California starting in October of 1965. We still have a few pieces today. As I remember 8 gallons got you a knife, fork, OR s****.
Yeah…I don’t think my 80 year old **** will bring anything but laughs…I do believe all “Mooners” will meet again at the day of reckoning. I’m hoping St Peter has a sense of humor.
Remember Gas Wars? I was 12 in 1962 and I made my spending money cutting gr***, I remember paying 16 cent a gallon during the summer. HRP
I remember the gas wars of the late 80's (yeah...I know I am a youngin) at about 50 cents a gal. in Sacramento, CA.
