Projects New to Virgnia and looking for a speed/custom shop

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by William Potterton, Oct 14, 2024.

  1. Greetings all, 1st Post so I hope I am in the right discussion group. Been in Virginia (Front Royal Area) for a few years in the military. I recently inherited my Dads 46 Ford Super Deluxe ( It has a Chevy 350 in it, sorry Flat Heads).

Anyways, it sat for a number of years and needs some work. Also Dad always wanted to put a Mustang II IFS in it, and I am looking for a good shop in North Western Virgina to do the work. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Skip the MII, and have the stock I beam front end rebuilt. It will ride just fine and steer great. If you want, put disc brakes on the stock front spindles, kits are available.

  3. I agree with BJR 100%. Leave that I-beam in the car. Rebuild if necessary and enjoy! I have been driving I-beams way more years than I would care to admit to and will continue to do so.

Check with Koppy (here on the HAMB). He runs a home shop, but near Norfolk. He did some suspension work for me. Really good to deal with and reasonable

:)Welcome to the HAMB from East Tennessee. As it stands now, your car fits in this forum. If you are considering changing your front suspension to MII, move your thread over to the "Off Topic Rods and Customs" forum. It was added just this year in response to several members who have cars that don't fit the criteria for traditional hot rods and customs. You will find all kinds of information on MII suspension.

  8. Thanks All. Definitely not going to go with the MSII from end. The car is fun to drive, just needs a tune. It is actually still in Wisconsin, but want to ship it here (Fort Valley) before winter. Had a great shop in Wisconsin but looking for a place here. Have heard good things about Clark County Speed shop, but wanted to get expert advice. Keep the thoughts coming and thank you

  11. So the tragedy gets WORSE. Called OJ in Berryville, he wont do it because he fears "project creep" and doesn't have the time. All American in Manasses was very promising, and looked like I could get the car into them in Jan/Feb. So hired a transport company and was having the car shipped out.... Then was told the driver was in an accident when he hit a pothole and blew out 2 tires. After a week of waiting, the car arrived and the driver took off very quickly as I was walking the car. It was obvious Dads car was rear ended by another car, and then they took vise grips to the billet aluminum radiator to try to pull the center bumper off the body. Needless to say I have to get it into a shop now, but no one is available. Any continued help or suggestions is appreciated.

How about Sterling Hot Rods? Sterling Va. Not sure they are still in business.

I would stay away from Sterling Hot Rods. Too many legal issues. You could try Pro Speed in Chantilly.

  19. You might ask for shop recommendations in south central Pennsylvania?

Hope you had the car insured. What did the hauler company say? Now that you're here, always use one of the HAMB haulers from the HAMB-O-Dex.
