I have seen some posts where trunks are highly detailed and have sine very thoughtful accessories. Others are more very utilitarian with almost nothing in the trunks. And yet others carry an array of tools parts and seem well equipped to deal with almost any problem that could arise. I'm debating carrying antique road flares in the trunk of the 51 for shows. I plan to build a container for them in the old spare well in the trunk. Lets see what's in your trunk and how you pulled it off.

Here is what they look like. [IMG]

Just don’t put any kerosene in them.

I’ve never seen those “smudge pots” carried in a car trunk. Those were only used for construction along roadways.
Stinking dirty things. They will leak.
I have seen the flares carried.

I hope this thread prospers. I love looking at trunks that people put time and attention toward.

I guess I could finish the inside of the trunk, but haven't found any reason to yet.

Have an old suitcase and tool box for the Chrysler, but nothing fancy.
While I really appreciate the show rod & custom trunks, they sure are a ton of work, and often render it almost useless. One I haven't seen yet is what I've seen in a few British vintage cars. a nice blanket and picnic basket.

I see the road flares . I have a story I should not repeat and forget I was ask about them . But here goes . I was tinkering in the garage a biker Bud , pulls in comes inside , starts talkin bike stuff and asks “ do you have any road flares ? “ I’m like no , but the truck repair shops still sell them. “ He then says “ I don’t want to buy any , A guy cheated me on some parts , pissed me off . I’m puttin it in his front seat about 3 in the morning . I hate a Bastard that steals ! “ I never heard the out come of the story and don’t care to .

  20. Packed up for a 1500 mile round trip with 4 kids with me a few years back. Under all that stuff, my trunk still has the original trunk mat.

  21. I'll have to get a pic of it tomorrow. But I have a 1950s rc cola cooler I'll carry in the trunk(and actually use) once my 53 starts seeing actual road use. Also have a small vintage Kennedy tool box the guy that sold me my 53 threw in when he heard what I wanted to do with it. I painted it snap on red and am amassing various vintage mostly snap on tools to keep in it to use as my road box.

  26. Sorry, no photos, but I've used vintage suitcase(s) to hold tools or whatever. Sometimes with neat little dividers, sometimes a less organized jumble. I haven't done it myself but I've seen vintage suitcases used as speaker boxes. There is some flexibility with the "suitcase" idea. You can pack them differently for different situations or leave them out completely depending on the occasion.
Not my idea but I saw a setup in a magazine write-up where a stack of hollowed out, vintage luggage was used to cover mechanical equipment in the trunk area.

I'm surprised no one has come out and said their trunk has patina.
