Curious if anyone has put buckets seats in their 54. If you have what did they come out of and how did they fit. Also wondering how those nice leather seats out of a lincoln would work. They may be too wide, just wondering what people have tried. Pictures would be nice. Ralph
I've got buckets from a 97 Mark VIII in my 56. Comfortable and fit good. I'll take some pictures later.
Ive got buckets in mine. I got them from my dad. I think he said they were from a mid 60's impala. They fit the car and look pretty good. Though we had to do quite a lot of modifications to the brackets to fit properly. Sorry I don't have any good pictures of them right now.
I've got them in my '57.....front and back(sorta)..93? Mitsubishi Eclipse. Redyed including Ford logo. back seat folds down for trunk access. These seats are on my bucket list(appropriatly named in this case) for things to redo after the car is completly finished...or, on the road at least. My tastes have changed, and I no longer think the high back seats are "right"...will look for a medium rise set of seats to replace. In '94?, the Eclipse went to a lower rise seat, would make the swap an easy bolt in...particularly the rear because of the wrap around side panels I made to fit the seat. I was really surprised at the quality of the seats/upholstery in the Eclipses, btw. Several limiting factors when searching for bucket seats you will have to keep in mind....for a 2 door you won't be able to use seats from a 4 door....like a Lincoln Towncar, because they don't fold forward. That eliminates 90% of the salvage yard finds! Also how they fit will depend on whether or not you are planning on a console.
A very comfortable seat and a good fit is 1991-97 Thunderbirds,since they are 2 door only cars no issues with the tilt.The Mustang seats needed a 1 1/2" -2" spacer to raise them off the floor. I had a '91 T-Bird and the seats really had a good feel,the '95 and later have a little more lumbar support.
I can't believe I didn't think about the 4 door cars not working What I think I want is a set of late 60 or early 70 T-Bird seats. So far I'm not finding anything except on ebay. I'll need to check out the 91-97. It's interesting how Texas57 has done his interior. I do agree high back is not what I want.
seen lots of 65-6 t-bird buckets in early Fords you can even use the back seat side panels, they look great as the backs look almost like buckets, I'll be using a set of 65 bird buckets in my 57. am of the mindset that high back buckets don't look right in 50s and most 60s cars.
I currently have bucket swivel seats from a late 70's monte carlo. I dont like the highbacks though and I now have a pair of 67 GTO buckets I am going to use. Wouldn't mind having power seats though and have made some notes on some that would work and the seats fold forward. The 60's tbird seats would work good and many of them have power driver seat. I browse one of the popular tri five forums just to gather some good info on this type of stuff. Of course with newer seats you have to be aware of ones that have airbags and other things not desired. I like the eldorado seats and have looked at some in the boneyards. Looked like a bear to get out though, especially without having power to move them! I keep watching craigs hoping to find a parting out of one of these newer models. These are the later model Eclipse seats I referenced in my post above. These were in a '95 ebay car. I think they look pretty damn good....Would suit my '57 better I think..what do you guys think?
I really like those GM swivel bases and if you check the little books swivel base buckets are a traditional mod in early customs. If you like the MC other than the headrest have you talked to your upholsterer about modifying your seat. Not a big deal to chop down a lot of seats.
Bottom line though isn't it like buying that recliner we have in the living room,you should sit in them and buy what feels right and fits your body best because you are the guy who is going to cruise in them.

I think the swivels are pretty neat and always a topic of discussion for sure. They are not the easiest access to get in the back seat since they dont fold but if you slide it forward and swivel, it works. I personally like the GTO seats better though, and if I go with non power seats I will likely use them. Mine look like this. I ran across another option to. Not sure what all years are the same, but the 2000 Toyota Solara might work to

I personally can't stand any of those modern slicked out plastic looking seats in any old car. Unless it's a high tech street rod type of build. But to each their own.

I bought a seat of 1966 corvair bucket seats for the Ranch Wagon but Brenda said NO! so I sold them but I thought the style looked right for a 50's car. HRP
I used the front seats out of a Prius cuz they were sitting on the sidewalk with a 'Free' sign on 'em. Very comfortable, unlike the factory bench seat. Dumped the headrests and had them reupholstered. Still have to build a console.
*****um, 54, chop top, slanted "B" pillars, giant transmission tunnel, there's a lot more going on there than just Falcon buckets! I especially like the custom wood steering wheel in the first picture. I think we are gonna want to see a lot more of this car before it is finished, thanks for sharing!
