I love early Chevy ll's. Have had several. Just sold a good solid 66 sedan project that I just ran out of gas to finish. Wish I had my 66 sedan from years ago that I cloned an L-79 to about 96% legit. Miss that car more than any I have ever had. Will be keeping close watch.

Big step I have a body in white! Matched the original dark turquoise for the dash and cage, and light turquoise elsewhere. Replicated red oxide on the underside, and have the trunk splattered. I’ll be able to start assembly soon.

One of these days when you decide to sell people will say WHAT on the price. Some don't have a clue what it takes to build this degree of detail.

Thankful to have a guy that is super efficient at doing light collision, rust repair and touch- ups for local dealers and enjoys the occasional restoration for a challenge. He’s also very smart on using good materials on the external panel, but economy product inside, and underneath. The trunk splatter is actually aerosol granite stone paint buried in a good clear semigloss clear.

Brought the Chevy II body back last weekend. It’s cut and buffed. The doors and deck lid are next followed by the hood and front fenders.

I’ve been using Evaporust to de rust all the small stuff…not sure why I waited so long to use it. Works great. I’ve got a lot of small stuff to paint

also decided on a Autogear M23W 4 speed (2.56 first gear) instead of a Tremec TKX. Should be bulletproof! Also looking at RAM clutches.

Still pondering a rear gear. 3.70, 3.90, 4.10? Leaning towards a 4.10 to keep drivetrain stresses down

Nice detail work on the bottom side.
White is the perfect color for Chevy II sedans.

A few more pics. Slower progress than I’d like, but I should be on track for spring.

Absolutely the best Chevy ll I have I have seen and I have seen a few over my years of loving these early ll's. Let me know when you are ready to start another and I will take this one off your hands.

Thanks, those are great detail shots, especially the transmission, shifter and hump.
So, the fitment of the shifter looks killer, what were the particulars on that.
How long did it take you to recover from the sting of the cost on the Lakewood Chevy II scattershield, I bought one also but ended up trading it to a friend for some header work, I used my original Nova belhousing instead.

My first plan was hydraulic TO and use a standard GM Lakewood, but then I started hearing bad things about some clutch release bearings, release time and thought mechanical would be the better......And yes I thought the bell would be $800 but they must've had slow sales on the Chevy II as they were discounted direct from Lakewood at $550. Still expensive but the mechanical linkage is less. I went with a RAM Clutch.

I was fretting if I had 4 speed hump in the right location as it was taken images and measurements sent me. The AutoGear has a slightly bigger (in all directions) case. I told Eric at CrashBox enterprises what I was building and he has jig and bracket mods for the AutoGear so it exits in the original location. It came out spot on, linkage clearance to the floor hump is super tight. I may need to drop the tranny mount a little bit. Will see after its on the road.

Headers........That is next, I have a used pair to fit-up and decide a plan from there. Any recommendations on which brand clear the Z-Bar.

My headers are a bit of a mashup, they are a 1&3/4"set from S&S Headers (now closed) that were designed for 28-34 Fords, in my eyes the nicest ones ever made, I have the same ones (unmodified) for my roadster.
With my car being so low and the tight confines of the stock Nova shock towers, the tubes needed some shortening and redirecting, the collectors also needed to be made removable.
My 327 is a Nova block with the recessed oil filter boss so it only required a little finessing on the clutch mechanism, there is a reason GM put the throwout fork exit on the belhousing at the 7 o'clock position.
As to the transmission mount, Energy Suspension makes them in two different heights.
I built this crossmember to keep the exhaust tucked up.

Cool build @Roadsir. Way back when I had almost a dozen of those 68-72 though.
I must say I don't believe i have ever seen one as rust free as yours

Maybe I missed it but I'm curious - what paint/formula did you use and how closely did it match the original Ermine White? Or maybe you're not too concerned about that? The single stage urethane I got was supposed to be a match but it's a lot brighter than the original protected areas on the sides of the cowl. I did use it on the inner parts of the front fenders and hood but I'm not sure I want to use it on the exterior when/if I get to that point.
Slow? Heh. You should hang around my garage....
    Great updates, thanks.

I thought it was a little whiter but since everything was getting sprayed I didn’t look back, in fact with the turquoise I think brighter white looks better. Thanks! Eric

Making headway! Waiting on one piece of weatherstrip to finish one quarter window, door seals are in, fuel and brake plumbing is done, hung the fenders, looking more like a car, major projects are wiring and exhaust, headliner, carpet.
