hi, i need some help with these blowers. a friend of mine who is not very computer friendly, asked me to list these blowers and help him sell them. my problem is i don't have any experience with blowers in general and when i try to find a way to price them, it seems prices are all over the shop. i've enclosed some pictures of them, they both turn but one is not as smooth as the other. in addition i really don't know what to look for in terms of condition. they seem to be ok but again, i really don't know. also, how should i price them? i'm sure that depends on how complete they are and overall condition but again, i'm lost. any info would be helpful and they are for sale so if anyone is interested, please let me know. thanks!
they become worth a lot more when they've been converted for use as a supercharger on a gasoline engine. Those were taken off diesel engines, and are worth perhaps a few hundred bucks all together. location also matters...where are you?
Id say about $250 each if that . The vanes are a bit chewed up so the case is likely to. Id want one more for a display engine and the intake I have. Been looking for a good 471 for awhile to convert anf run someday.
I bought one of those a few years ago for $60 and dropped the idea of using it when I saw what a rebuild and all the missing parts would cost. I'd rather buy one ready to bolt on an intake.
I buy them for $40-60 each. I recently got one for free from a metal recycler. One of those has rotor damage, and likely case damage. That reduces it to parts-only. The problem with the 4-71 is the near-total absence of manifolds, with the only available ones being impossibly expensive. The manifolds in many cases are so expensive that I have been able to buy complete converted 6-71 (including the drive) setups for the same price as a 4-71 manifold, alone. Where a customer required a 4-71, and was willing to pay the price, I made the manifold. This is the "free" 4-71, on top of a manifold that I made, incomplete. As shown, this cost more than and entre 6-71 setup, but there does not exist that setup for this engine, either.
I went down the Google rabbit hole on blowers. I have one my dad left that I think must have been for a Cummins engine. So confusing. Some replaced bearings, some ran as is, some removed shims, some machined the cases, rotors. for something, etc, etc. I came to the conclusion if I ever want one, buy one done
I have the manifold need the blower LOL. Got mine along with a original Ridgerunner tunnelram and a Franklin stick car quick change rear end at Jefferson swapfrom the same guy all for $500 . I recall being pissed he lied about the rearend having axles and it was 10 spline. Was about 20 years ago on a Sunday. I'll find a usable blower core eventually. It's going on the vette or something someday. I had a Dyers 471 set up years ago and that just used like a Torquer SBC manifold and a big plate. Been looking for a hemi 471 intake for my 331
hey, thanks for all the replies! much appreciated! after all the info and inspecting them further, i'd say he wants too much for them. he wants $750 for the pair. i think i'll just return them to him and tell him they are better as "wall art"! cheers!
I took an empty 4-71 blower case to a reputable blower shop and he filled it with parts and set it up for $800. Wouldn't pay more than a few hundred bucks for an unknown 4-71.
