“CHANGE requires effort”

Hello,

When my wife and I started a family, change was evident. A couple turned into a family, allowed us to follow a new path to our futures. Now, someone else was involved and we adapted to the changes necessary to make the whole scene fun and enjoyable.

We had been living in an adult house for several years and now, it was still a couple of years away, but we started to make some changes from an adult house to one for our baby, soon to be a moving toddler. One of the first things was moving our son from his new crib, all propped up in his blanket ready for a long sleep at night. That was something and we made a change, not due to his sleeping habits, but for our own sake.

In looking at our tiny son all wrapped up in his blanket and in his what looked like a huge crib, made us think of other things. The room was down the hall, it was decorated with appropriate baby things and such things as a rocker, foot stool and a nice dresser holding all things baby…

But the one of two things we had to change. One was the crib looked too large for such a tiny baby. So, we made a custom bed out of a deep dresser drawer with foam pads on the bottom and he fit nicely down inside as the walls gave him a close feeling as if still floating around like the last 9 months.

Plus, we set it up next to our own large bed and now, it was a couple of steps to check on him throughout the night(s). Many years later, our family laughed at the image of a tiny baby all wrapped up and propped up correctly in his “Deep drawer custom bed” sitting closely to our own for the coming experience of getting up and checking things out.

Note:

That lasted two weeks as little guys make an infinite amount of noise in his deep and shallow sleeping habits. So, it was back to his own room and now, we could still hear the noises, but it was as we were drifting off to deep sleep. He still was wrapped appropriately and all was fine.

The next thing was our 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery.

As nice as it was for the two of us on our road trips and photo journeys all over So Cal, it was a hot rod with tons of space, but built for the two of us. There was a lot of rear cave space for other things, but no specific space for a little baby or toddler in a safety car carrier or car seat. Despite trying many locations and scenarios, it just did not work. So, we sold it and got a more accessible station wagon with a real back seat and easy access to my wife making necessary changes by leaning over the back.

But, the sedan delivery did have its quirks. Later on, our son was always looking outside through the windows of a small station wagon. That was good as he was able to notice things along the way or just his new environment. The sedan delivery would have a small slot between two bucket seats for his view forward, while the car seat was safely buckled in place. But, it was inconvenient for the both of us in our comfy seats and the dark interior cave of the sedan delivery.

The one thing the sedan delivery had was plenty of space for all of the necessary baby/toddler things, folding sleep play pen, a swing, a feeder rolling cart/tray and other bags of necessary items. But, our sale and goodbye was disheartening, but a new adventure was waiting for us to adjust our lifestyle and have fun during the long road trip, to this day… YRMV

Hello,

When I saw my future wife walking down the long hallway in our college days, it was a sight to remember forever. Wow is all I could get out of my simple brain. But, the grades of the class assignments when the professor handed them out was comical. I could see a big red “A” on her papers and when it came time for my try at the assignment. A normal “C” was standard. Sometimes there was a “B” and the teacher as funny as she could be, always said… “It is a change for the good.” Ha ha!

As we got together, she knew I had the skills, but I spent a lot of time early in the morning out in the water, surfing. Then it was ski season and I went skiing with friends. The time we spent together allowed her to understand me better and that I was not just a college slacker, but someone who had skills. Being pushed to the side while life continues on in the pursuit of fun activities. A life time sport? Why surfing, of course.

As we got to the end of our final college year, we both had a “B” average grade. Mine was a solid B and hers was just pushing the “A-” category. So, I brought my G.P.A. way up to finish in some type of satisfaction. Now, she knew I was definitely not a slacker.

We enjoyed our time together from 1966 on our long coastal road trips and adventures together in the 1965 El Camino. It was our way to grow up and express ourselves while being on the same page in thought, ideals, and feelings. The information and skills were there, as my mom would say... it just needed some inspiration given by an important part of being 20 something and throughout life. Ah, yes, local kid makes good and it is still going on this long journey to this day. YRMV
